Sharing with a Plat
Mrs xcalx has no Marriott status, I however am Plat. She has a free promo cat 1-5 night booked. Would we be entitled to any benefits (lounge access) as although sharing, the booking is not in my name.
Also if she was to apply for and complete the Gold/Plat challange over the next 3 months when would the status be valid till. Thanks |

I'm lifetime so don't really track the challenges, but if someone else does I'm sure they'll chime in or you can check the challenge thread. Cheers. |
I think Plat status from a challenge will be valid till end of Feb 2015, at least this is what I received (current + following year) when I fulfilled a challenge a few years ago.

Yes, most properties will extend Plat benefits if you show your card at check-in. I have done that many times when a non-status friend insists upon making the rez or I do a last-minute join along.
As for status life, although there are many posts conflicting with each other, you should read the terms of the challenge to confirm. It's sounding to me if you only meet the challenge terms then your status is good until the end of Feb the year after the challenge. However, if you were to go on and meet the Plat status requirements, you'd be good for another year (standard term). |
A big thanks to you all ^

We've been in exactly the same situation and have never had a problem getting the platinum benefits (although it was in Asia, which tends to be a little more generous about these things...) Once or twice, I wrote a note in the comments section of the reservation that my spouse, a Plat member, would be sharing the room. I mentioned his name and MR number.

I assume that you won't get the Platinum arrival gift?
Thanks in advance! |
Since the reservation is in your spouses name, why not add your name and your platinum # to the reservation. I do this all the time when Mrs. OU812 has a conference and I am tagging along. Very ofter this will result in an upgrade before arrival. You can always bring your platinum card with you to show when checking in just in case.
Also, with regards to the Gold/Platinum challenge, I believe the bestow they status upon you immediately and take it away if you don't complete the challenge. Regards, RIP... |
I have given my Plat card to my wife for when she needs it.

I think the "RULES" state that the reservation must be made under the PP name and matching number. If a hotel recognizes spouse as PP when guest is not, that is their option - but is against the rules.
As for giving your wife your card to use, if you read the fine print, it can be removed for that. In fact I saw that happen in NYC. Another way which was suggested to me it to make the resevation under "Mr and Mrs" "PP" andspouse Jones. Then if for some reason Mr PP does not show up or plans to show up late, spouse jones can still check in. However, if her name is not on the reservation, she cannot check in. |
