Where to go for 1 week in July (beach)
Hello,
I'd like to go somewhere warm near to the beach for the 1st week of July. I thought of Aruba, Costa Rica, Cancun or the Caribbeans. Or even Philippines. But it seems to be either way to hot, or to be the rainy season. I would depart from SFO. Any recommendations? |
This is hurricane season in the Caribbean. Aruba is probably your best bet, because it is more south and very rarely gets hurricanes. Next, I think would be Cancun. Also, there is a new JW on the beach in Panama and another in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Check on the weather of the last two.

Apparently that'd in the middle of the rain season for central america.
Aruba seems indeed the best bet so far. |
You can also look at the Marriott in Curacao. Aruba and Curacao are close but completely different islands. Depending on your interests, you might want to research both.

Curacao/Aruba are around 90 in July/August. And humid. But if you are primarily doing activites in the ocean it is bearable. Hiking and such is pretty much out.

In July, you really have 3 good choices for the beach:
aruba - micro-climate keeps it from raining except for september - november. bali - The complications of SE asian weather patterns give you the dry season in the northern summer the mediterranean - july was made for the med |
Thanks everyone for the feedback so far. I want to redeem miles with Delta and apparently they dont fly to Curacao :-(
And Europe is excluded as we are both from Europe and for some reasons that does not feel 'exotic enough' (and I feel bad traveling so far when it is originally so close from 'real home' :)) |
What about Phukett or Hawaii?

+1 on Hawaii
Also look at Hilton Head (laid back and great natural setting) or Mrytle Beach (more touristy). Both of them will be hot and humid in July but very comfortable at the beach. The Hilton Head Marriott is right on the beach but a somewhat dated property. The Mrytle Beach Marriott is also right on the beach and newer and nicer. While Mrytle Beach itself can be very touristy, the Marriott property is in it's own isolated section of the beach. If you like Marriott Vacation Clubs both locations have them though they are hard to get on points. For Hilton Head: Barony, Grande Ocean, Monarch, and Surf Watch are on the beach. The other 4 Hilton Head Vacation clubs are not on the beach and are more golf oriented. --Jon |
What about Key West ?

Not on your original list but how about FL? Rain is mainly in the afternoon when u want off the beach after all day. You can find other distractions like amusement parks and things depending where you are in the state. I hear the Residence Inn Treasure Island is nice, and its on the beach.

To me you can't go wrong with Hawaii. It's so easy to get to from the west coast. Non-stop, 5 hours, and you are there.
