Marriott Points

I will be paying for 30+ hotel rooms for 2 nights at a Marriott Signature Collection hotel as part of my wedding. I was going to sign up for the Marriott premier rewards card as well as a Marriott rewards account.

As part of the sign-up process for Marriott rewards, there was an option to accrue Marriott Points or earn airline miles.

Can you please suggest which one would be a better option based on your experience?

Congrats on your wedding!

Like the poster above said, points. And it's not even sort of close. Much more bang for your buck.

Hang on.... do you think you'll be able to get the points for all the rooms? I don't think that will be possible. You'll only get points for the room you'll stay in. So, 2 nights worth.

I think you get the points for all of the rooms, but only "nights" for the room you stay in IIRC. I've stayed at a Marriott where I booked two rooms for two nights are received all points for both rooms

Yes it is possible if you book an event at the property and room block.

make sure you sign up for the Elite Bonuses... they usually have one where if you stay 25 nights you get 50,000 points or something. You may not get the bonus, but sure doesn't hurt to sign up. You'll see it in the "Promotion" section of your marriott page when you login.

On the webpage where they try to group all the brands into several groups, under Signature, they just have Marriott Hotels and Resorts. So I guess it mean, plain old Marriotts.

FYI:
A Member is eligible to receive Points/Miles for staying at participating Marriott brand hotels or Ritz-Carlton hotels for his/her room and up to two additional rooms. At least one of the rooms must be reserved and registered in the Member's name and the Member must pay for all rooms, which payment arrangement must be requested at time of hotel check-in. The Member must also stay in one of the rooms. To ensure Points are automatically posted to the correct Membership Account, the Member's Rewards Program Membership Number must be present on his/her room folio and up to two additional rooms, as applicable (from https://www.marriott.com/rewards/terms/earning.mi)

If the OP books this as an event (with a contract) he will get 3points/$ for ALL the rooms and the additional expenses up to 50,000 points and 10 nights towards status that don't count towards promotions.

Notes/Ideas:

1. Pay with a Marriott Visa to get an additional 5points/$ and a night towards status for each $3000.

2. If you intend to spend more than $17,000 it pays off to talk to the hotel and book TWO events, so your accrual isn't capped.

3. Check the events page on Marriott.com - they run promotions periodically for DOUBLE points.

Congratulations for your wedding and best wishes for a happy life with your partner!! ;)

Marriott Points

Also, everything is negotiable. Ask for an extra 50,000 points before you sign.
