How long will the elite status be valid?
 

Hi guys, I have a question regarding the elite status expiration.

My understanding is your elite status will be valid unitl Feb, N+1 (N=current year)

I wrote an email to Marriott rewards agent regarding my account status, and I received email today with following answer.

Our records indicate that your Platinum Elite status is valid until 31 January 2015.

WOW, they extend my elite status till 2015, 2 years in total! Is it normal or an exception?

This is not normal, and therefore most likely not accurate. Your understanding is correct. When a member qualifies for a level, say Platinum, during a calendar year... it's good for the rest of that year and the following year + an extra 2 months to allow for accounting, getting you a new card, etc.

So, if you qualified for Platinum in 2012, you're good to go as a Platinum from the date you reached Platinum in 2012 until the end of Feb 2014.

The answer given above is correct, however, it would also depend on how many nights you had in 2012. If you had combination of rollover nights + actual nights to equal 150 nights in 2012, then with Rollover Nights now being a permanent benefit, your Platinum status would continue until Feb. 2015.

75 nights in 2012 = Platinum Status til 2/28/14.
75 rollover nights in 2012 = 75 nights in 2013 = Platinum status until 2/28/15

Actually, you would need actual nights of 150+ in 2012 to get Plat status till 2015. Rollover nights do not roll over the second year.
