Marriott Introduces Workspace On Demand

Saw this on MR's Facebook page. Ability to book workspace/meeting rooms online and via mobile app. How does the points/night credit work with these? Are they treated as an event?

"Looking for a place to work or meet for a few hours or days?
Marriott has teamed up with LiquidSpace to make flexible work and meeting space easy to find and simple to reserve, just like a hotel room.
With Marriott Workspace on Demand, you can book a space to work, meet, connect or collaborate…..right now.
Give it a try. Select your state to search great spaces to work at participating Marriott®, Renaissance® and Courtyard® hotels in your area."

Most of the properties are offering free reserved areas at Courtyards (in public places - like the lobbies). The ones that are by the hours virtually certainly would not carry the 10 EQN offer.

Probably worth asking Marriott Concierge or Michelle on Insiders.

Cheers.

I guess I don't see the point of most Marriotts doing this: reserve a spot in the lobby for free with free WiFi when you're not a hotel guest of MR member. Are they counting on getting a lot more F&B revenue from this when it doesn't seem to be required? Does anyone understand their business model?

I'm not quite sure I understand it either. Maybe by promoting their free/cheap workspaces they can drive more traffic to their properties and increase meeting/room sales.
