Marriott website times out too fast?
Not sure if you guys share the same feeling as me, that the Marriott website times you out too fast, that a lot of times, when I'm in the middle of something, like doing rate/room researches, it gets timed out, and I have to log in again, and get redirected not to the page I was on, but straight to the home page. Very annoying.
I can understand they want to time people out because you may be on a public computer (in a hotel business centre, for example) and you may forget to log out yourself, but it seems to me that the time period is too short. From what I can tell, SPG doesn't time out so fast, IHG although times out as fast as Marriott but when you re-log in you are landed on the same page where you left off. The only one comparably bad is Hilton website. Also, for Marriott's mobile app (which is just a frame for their mobile website), they time people out too, which I think is very unnecessary. Mobile apps from most other chains don't time out at all and you are always logged in your account. |

My other pet peeve is if I start to do a search & then want to do an advanced search, it wipes out the info I've already inputted such as location & dates. Cheers. |

One big pet peeve I have with the new design when doing a search for a property, the website will indicate the location of all Marriotts in the desired city on the map with numbers but not list these number in the list of properties. While you can still move your mouse on the number and get the property info, it used to be helpful to be able to locate the properties on the map in order to compare their location while looking at the rates and all the rest.
We used to also be able to look at photos and amenities from the search results without having to click on the actual property. |

Marriott's website used to work very well. Then they enhanced it. In my usage pattern it had the opposite effect.
I also hate (but it is true at Hyatt, Hilton, too) that new consortium screen that pops up offering you competitive properties before I have even reviewed the Marriott properties! |
Prior to the past couple years of repeated "enhancemnts", Marriott.com used to be the best hotel web site out there.
Now it is one of the worst IMO. Not user friendly at all, and downright dysfunctional in certain aspects. I have complained to Marriott ad nauseum with no success. Now I call the PP line, which in itself is a joke. |
I totally agree: the "enhanced website," even with the improvements made for it to more closely resemble the one it replaced, is incredibly annoying, far more than other travel websites. The timeout is shockingly short--and if you begin a search thinking you're still signed in (after, say, 5 minutes away), only to be forced to sign in again, all of your search entries are erased and you need to start over. Argggggggh------

I still put the Marriott site ahead of Hyatt. The Hilton website has gotten much better in the past 3 years, although they have more downtime than the Marriott one. I don't use the SPG one enough, but it seems to me that Marriott's website is slightly better than SPG. The sad thing is that Marriott website was once the best one by far for hotel chains.
I have more of a timeout issue when I use Marriott's mobile page. I also find Marriott (& Hilton) have webpages that load the roomkey page too quickly when I am searching for a room on my iPad. I only get the roomkey page on my laptop if I get close to making a room booking and decide not to complete it. Roomkey, however, appears often during the middle of a search on my iPad, and it ends up taking over the page that was displaying my room search on Marriott & Hilton. |
Definitely agree that some of the "enhancements" have made it more difficult for me to find some of the things I'm looking for. Maybe I haven't given it enough of a chance but that RoomKey pop-up is annoying as <insert expetive here>. Why not let me decide if I want to compare competing properties in a city? Why even offer me that option? If go to the Marriott site it's because I want to book a Marriott property - not some competitor. If I want SPG I'll go to the SPG site. If I want Hyatt I'll go to the Hyatt site. I know the "trend" is for brand specific sites to offer you comparisons so you don't leave their site to check out the competitors but IMHO it would be better to have a button/option to compare prices rather than just have that dang pop-up come up everytime I go to check a different Marriott property in the same city.
Sorry for the venting - I was making several reservations for Marriott stays and that annoying pop-up started to get on my nerves. |
My irritant is that I put in a city & then decide I want to do an advanced search to narrow it to brands & it deletes the city/state/country dates & gives me an error code, and then I have input it again
Cheers. |
