Points are Posting about 60% of the time

What is up with Marriott Reward Points? Stayed 3 different places in December and NONE of them have posted (1 did incorrectly). I need these points of course to buy a GC that is expiring (the offer) on the 31st. As someone who will be close to 100 Nights at Marriott this year it really is getting old. How am 100% with my flight bookings showing up and so terrible with Marriott. Really not interested in having to Email my receipt (which I get emailed to me from Marriott) back to them every other time to get my points to post. Not sure why the Reward points are such a problem.

Frustrated.

A list of the properties I have had issue with:

St. Kitts Marriott
Jacksonville Marriott
Springhill Suites Montreal
Amsterdam Renaisance
Ocala Courtyard
Chicago Renaisance
Aruba Marriott
I am sure there are more...these are just recent ones...

Same here.
This has to be the weakest aspect of Marriott Reward? Had at least 10 stays in the last quarter that did not post at all or did post incorrect. Last year was even worse...

Thanks for the reminder. I need to send in all the folios that didn't post or posted incorrectly

Cheers.

Still a newbie (1.5 years) but I've been staying with just a small handful of different Marriott properties and have no problems with the points posting so far. I usually get it posted about 2 days after checkout.

AirMiles2001 Dec 30, 2012 7:58 am

It seems to depend on the property. Most are fine for me but I have consistently had issues with RI Omaha.

fredlisancnc Dec 30, 2012 8:01 am

Also have not had any issues...

orca15 Dec 30, 2012 10:44 am

30+ stays, zero issues. Any chance there is another problem (travel agent with fat fingers)?

shoreline Dec 30, 2012 11:42 am

haven't had any real issues here, except with a stay that was suppose to earn 1000 bonus points (really paid for in the rate) that did not post.

i have noticed when attending with a very large group it can take up to 1 month for those points to post.

my record keeping is quite good, but I do not like have to track something for 1 month for posting (but I guess that's just they way it goes).

i'm curious, for those who have trouble with points posting (especially the OP since the percentage seems so high), are these reservations showing on the Marriott profile after the reservation has been made and how are they being booked? If it's through a corporate travel booking site, maybe it's that particular site.

it seems strange such a high percentage of hotels would be coding them incorrectly to not post. if no MR number on the stay, then it won't post.

This is my biggest bug bear with Marriott. I often have problems with points not posting - why should it vary from property to property? Our booking is registered on the Marriott system, so it should be an automatic posting to the members account. If airlines can do it why can't Marriott? I currently have a missing stay made a week ago and no, I am not going to fax my details to Marriott rewards, I've emailed the hotel. If they can;t get their act together then someone needs a kick up the backside to get it done.

Over 90 paid stays this year and all have posted with no problems.

The only stays which didn't post automatically this year 2 days after the stay were those booked on group rates at conventions. A phone call or "contact us" message resolved it but still very annoying.

Historically I have had 6-8 stays per year which I had to call MR about. I have tried faxing or e-mailing MR about not receiving credit, but ultimately I had much better, and quicker, results from calling, with those being resolved during that call about 98% of the time. Of those, usually half were as commented below.

For the last decade or more, I have always had stays which were related to a conference or convention delayed for as much as three months, and that has always been more than just irritation. Between 2000 and 2010, I attended four professional conferences or conventions each year, all on a pre-negotiated group rate, but making my own reservation, and paying my own bill, at check out, by credit card. When I have called to complain, I have often gotten the runaround on these stays, which usually followed a script similar to this:

"Well sir, since you stayed with a group rate, we are not able to post stays and points for anyone until all the group guests have paid their bills."

Of course I always ask why, and I have heard all manner of excuses.

"What happens if 899 people pay, and just 1 does not pay, does that mean I will never get my room nights and points credit?"

"No sir, of course not!"

"Okay, so if it is not necessary for payment to be made for that one holdout, then why can't you credit everyone else when they pay?"

"Well sir, I don't know sir, that is up to accounting."

"Could I please speak with the accounting department?"

"No sir, accounting does not usually accept phone calls from guests."

And on it goes. Several years ago, I stopped calling the hotels for a solution to this continuing problem, and started calling MR, and then when they pull the folio, it usually gets resolved during the phone call and gets posted after midnight that night.

Pretty silly and petty in my opinion, holding hundreds of responsible guests hostage while waiting for less than 1% of scofflaw guests, but then, they did not ask me.

I don't know any other chain that holds up points posting on group rates like Marriott does. Probably 1/3-1/2 of my husband's business stays are for conventions, last year he had convention stays at Fairmont, Hilton, Marriott, only Marriott had issues.

+1 Over the years although I've also had a few conference/convention stays at other hotels, especially with Hilton, where I also have an account, and Marriott was the only one who had room nights and points posting issues.
