Marriott Maths

Ok, I'm confused.

How does 152 + 152 + 6.51 + 4.02 = 377.74 ?

Those taxes and service charges are per night.

Oh wow, even on the reward nights? Bah!

Odd how it didn't show them earlier when I had a points-only booking for 5 days (we were going to stay in another hotel for the first two days, since I only had enough Marriott points for a five day stay, but the wife complained about the whole "moving hotels" thing)...

You shouldn't be paying taxes on the Reward nights.

I make it $325.06. (152 + 6.51 + 4.02) x 2.

Sounds like a bug in the new Cash & Reward functionality.

Ok, thanks -- that kind of brings it back to what I was expecting :-). Hmmm. Maybe I'd be better off making a separate cash booking and a separate reward.

Thought experiment: if I had a cash booking for two days in a "better" room (beachfront), followed by a 5 day reward, how likely would we be to be allowed to remain in the better room? (I will drop down to Silver at the end of this year so won't have meaningful status).

Curiouser and curiouser. Making a booking for the nights on their own ends up with the same total:

So it looks like it simply splits the total service charge payable up over the number of nights stayed and gives that as the nightly service charge.

That's a large service charge! I do hope the service is good...

Depends on how busy the property is when you're staying there. You can let them know about the separate ressie at check-in & ask that you not be moved, but it's not guaranteed.

Cheers.

I always find service charges dubious as I expect the room rate to include service, but at least Marriott, Hilton (& I think Hyatt) waive service charges for award nights (SPG still includes service charges on award stays).

If there's a service charge then I presume this is a "resort" destination? (so no breakfast either).
