A void has been filled

Mitt Romney has now returned to Marriott Corperation as a board member. Can we expect things to perk up now? I wonder what Romney does for a big player in the hospitality business?

Unless he's guaranteeing that I get a suite upgrade every time I travel, don't really care whether he's on the board or not ;)

Cheers.

Like most board members he earns a fat paycheck for showing up 6-7 days a year and doing absolutely nothing.

I'm sure Bill trusts him implicitly, and he has the companies best interests at heart...

Fixed it for ya!

He is obviously aware that 47% of you expect free upgrades. I imagine he is only interested in helping those willing to pay for the suites.

Correct--the top 1%. Also, expect a huge expansion of Ritz properties.

Expect no further discounts. AAA and AARP rates will be removed ASAP.

And if you invest in Marriott--watch the balance sheet carefully in case of fuzzy math.

Worst of all--if you work for Marriott--be prepared for job losses.

The entire segment is concerned about this for 2 reasons - health care costs & the economy (Darden is going so far as to reduce the number of FTE's to reduce their health care costs)

Is he bringing his Binders of Women?

Orion Dec 6, 2012 7:26 am

I was slow to figure it out. With Romney on the payroll, Marriott hopes they will not be bought out and sold off for the value of the parts of the business.

Why eliminate AARP rates? He's certainly old enough to qualify and benefit from them.

Would it be irresponsible to post Mr. Marriott's person email address on FT so you all could ask him?

BKKLEE Dec 6, 2012 8:02 pm

YES (and against FT rules)............
