Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2019)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.

The codes for the new partial packages are:
New Cat 1-4: QP83
New Cat 5: QP91
New Cat 6: QP99
New Cat 7:

  • Select “Packages - Deals” from the “Topic” drop down menu
  • Submit your request

The legacy certificates map to the new certificates as such:
Cat 1-5 => Cat 1-4
Cat 6 => Cat 1-4
Cat 7 => Cat 5
Cat 8 => Cat 5
Cat 9 => Cat 6
Tier 1-3 => Cat 6
Tier 4-5 => Cat 7
==================================================

If you are unsure where you will use your 7 night stay, when you request the package, just ask for a category 1-5 hotel. That way you are out of the least number of points. If later, you decide to book for a higher level category, then you can do so and pay the difference the travel package points. If you can't use your certificate within the year, then as close to the one year anniversary (without going over!) call to extend the certificate for one more year. That's as long as they will typically allow, one extension. There is an option to expedite the mileage delivery to within three business days (sometimes faster) for $15. There are reports that this fee may be waived for platinum members.

Effective April 1 2017 re: Southwest & the companion pass:

"Purchased points, points converted from hotel and car loyalty programs, and e-Rewards, e-Miles, Valued Opinions and Diners Club, points earned from Rapid Rewards program enrollment, tier bonuses, flight bonuses, and partner bonuses (excluding points bonuses earned on the Rapid Rewards Credit Cards from Chase) do not count toward Companion Pass."

Can I book SPG properties with my Marriott Travel Package? As of 9/1/2018 apparently not. see https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/30155836-post6529.html

Hello,

Please bear with me if these are basic questions. I've read the last 20 pages of this thread to get my bearings, but I've never done the Marriott Travel Package before. I have a specific 7-day stay that this cert would be perfect for and have made an award reservation; now for the getting the cert (and also United miles).

It sounds like I just call 1-800-321-7396 but what's with the RewardsPlus account signup I see? Do I need to signup for a new RewardsPlus acct with my Marriott Rewards and MileagePlus acct to get the travel package?

Should net you 25,000 points on full package, so 157,000 total United points for max package.
I saw this earlier but assumed if it's only for the straight Marriott->United miles instead of including the travel package. Looks like it works for the 270K->132K United transfer as well?! The signup page says the deadline is Nov. 30th. In the past, do these bonus offers just require you to initiate the transfer by the deadline day or complete it? Thanks!

Transfers usually happen in 1-3 days. Just begin it before the promotion ends. Yes you will get the 157K UA points.

All you need to get the travel package is a MRP # and a United Airlines FF account in your name.
I received the 132K United miles the next day. The 25K will post on or before January, 2018.

Awesome deal. I will be able to cash one of these in about 2 weeks. Really... this is the best use of hotel points in any program.

makes the last round during the summer pretty hot. 35% (instead of 30%) and Marriott TP were not excluded.

In order to get the 25K bonus you need to REGISTER with the UA promotion which is independent from the Travel Package. Fail to register BEFORE you initiate the Travel Package you would NOT get the additional 25K!

The bonus would not post until 6 to 8 weeks after the promotion deadline. Last year when UA ran the same promotion the bonus posted in January. It should also be written in the UA promotion T&Cs about when the bonus would be posted. I am not interested in this so I have not looked into the fine prints this year but pretty sure you should be able to find such info in the T&Cs.

Has anyone had any experience booking a Marriott 7N package for someone else? If it’s possible, do you know if my Marriott status would apply to the booking even though my name wouldn’t be on the reservation?

How about 5 nights Cat1-5, how many Marriott points will be returned?
Marriott is no longer allowing you to cancel 7 nights Cat 1-5 hotel certificate & get points back.
I called Plat desk I was told they are happy to extend it for 1 more year. & second extension will also b e granted.

Would appreciate Ideas on way round outside of calling & cancelling now no longer allowed.

I'd call again and ask someone else. I just changed (last week) my 7 night cert (Cat. 7) from the Puerto Vallarta resort and instead of applying it to my new reservation as I asked they cancelled it and gave my 105K points instead.

No big deal as I just called them up and got it fixed, but they obviously can redeposit those certs if they want to.

I have never had to cancel one, but as recently as a couple months ago have been able to extend certificates, and they do it without hesitating. I have never not found a way to utilize a 7-night certificate not have I had to cancel one for a refund!

Using my latest one for a 2-br villa at MVC Las Vegas for a great Friends-giving trip!!

Try booking a hotel with the certificate and then cancel online.

It's always been YMMV, HUCA situation. Technically it's not in the rules but the right Marriott agent will do it.

I believe the certificate just goes back in your account to use in the future. It doesn't cancel the certificate-just the hotel.
