Which Marriott in Memphis???
I am doing a semi-MR and mini-trip to Memphis, TN. I was wondering which Marriott in Memphis is best? Also any restaurant suggestions would be very nice.
Thanks Dan |
If it's a mileage run then I assume you're only there one night?
If so, I'd go with downtown Marriott as it's easily the best for all the nightlife as it's right on the trolleybus route. It's worth checking whether there's a convention though, as it is the hotel for the convention centre and can therefore get a little busy. As for eating establishments, there's a good choice. Not being a barbeque fan (they'll never let me back in to Memphis after that admission) I can't comment on the most famous cuisine. I'm a huge fan of Jarrett's, but it is a little way out of the centre. It's upscale food but without a damaging pricetag. European influenced, but lots of local ingredients. I'm sure you can find it on the web somewhere. Texas de Brazil (downtown) is a little expensive, but the best quality all you can eat that I've tried. Avoid eating on Beale Street. But if you're there on Friday or Saturday, do go and have a listen to the piano act at Silky O'Sullivans. |

I have stayed at both many times. Both are good properties. Just depends where in MEM you want to be. Corkys is good as well as Rondavous(sp) down town. There is also a place out on Mud Island that is real good next to the Memphis Belle.
