Question for Socrates

You're quoted this week on another chain's board as stating "Marriott extends elite status benefits to Priceline stays." I understood you to say just the opposite. My travel is arranged for me as a mix of Priceline, consolidator, and direct bookings. I'm consused what to expect, and whether it changes with the booking method. Please clarify for my benefit.

Basically it means that if you have elite status with MR, you will recieve any tier benefits (room upgrade, lounge access, etc) even if your stay is booked through priceline.

cedric is correct. Elite enefits as described, but no points or stay credit for the room.

Socrates explained it succinctly here by saying, "...you will receive your Platinum benefits just not any stay credit or points on the room rate...but you will earn points on anything else charged to your room like normal."

As the member who quoted socrates, I did think I explained that -- that you are supposed to get elite perks, just not stay and point credit.

Thanks to all who replied. Not so sure the Marriott I often stay at is adhering to policy, or how much leverage I have to complain.

Perhaps the Official Marriott Lurker can start a thread on this issue?

I had not known of this before!

Perhaps a better aptly named thread could be started by Chris with the official imprimateur of Marriott on this issue so that if we were to run into trouble at a Marriott family property, all we would need to do is print out that posting?

In addition, although one would not get point credit or stay credit on the room rate paid to the opaque booking site, I assume -- but need an assurance -- that one would receive points for any incidentals charged to the room? :)

Thanks in advance,

NJ

Anecdotally, in our last 3 stays at full service Marriott's, purchased on Priceline (SF Moscone, Vancouver Pinnacle, Laguna Cliffs), we received no stay credits or rate points but did receive 10 pts/dollar (IIRC FF miles at Vancouver) for everything charged to our room. This experience spans over about a year, most recently this April.
