Tips for a Newbie

I have been Silver with Marriott for about two years now but my experience pales in comparison to many of those who post on this board.

I often find myself paying top prices for the standard Marriott rooms. (Don't know what an upgraded room looks like)

What are the best tips you can offer for someone who is trying to make my Marriott stays more rewarding? Thanks
