Rewards Certificate Question...

I noticed on E-Bay that if they've got all kinds of rewards and free night certificates. Are these legit? Before I bid on one, has anyone had any experience with these?

Only with the ones I've earned.

I make a res, show up at the hotel, give them the cert with MY name on it, give them a credit card (for incidentals) with MY name on it, they give me a key to room.

Not sure where I'm going, but I'm getting there fast.

Most of what you are seeing on Ebay right now
are coupons from the Spring Elite Package. These do not have a name on them and are fully transferable. In my mind they are selling for way more than they are worth for a buy one night get one free cert. Keep in mind the conditons are must be a "publicly available rate" which means M11 Marriott Rewards member rates don't qualify.

Well, let's see. Let’s assume I want to exchange MR points for 120K of FF miles on my favorite airline for a trip for two Down Under. To do so will cost me 310K of MR points.

If instead, I get an 083 award (7 nights category 1-5 + 120K FF miles), it will cost me only 235K points. And I'll have a 7-night certificate that I can turn back to Marriott for a credit of 45K points, leaving my net cost at 190K points.

Instead of returning the hotel certificate to Marriott, I can give it to a friend. To do so, I merely send the certificate back to Marriott to be issued in the friend's name. Or I could have the certificate issued in the friend's name in the first place. You can even do that through the telephone automated line, which has an option for having the certificate issued in someone else’s name.

Now what if I sell that certificate to a "friend" on eBay for $800 to $1,000? That doesn't seem to violate anything in the program Terms & Conditions.

Getting a package with a certificate for a stay at a category 6 or 7 hotel will cost more points, but the theory is the same and the eBay selling price will be higher.
