Hotel certificates from AA - ever used them?

Hello,

Has anyone been able to use successfully the hotel certificates that used to come with AA's award certs? I believe the last batch expires in December '02 as they no longer offer them.

The cert says something like 15% discount at Marriott or Renaissance hotels. What rates are applicable to these certs? If I have already booked a room, do I need to alert the hotel before I arrive that I'm using them?

Any help appreciated.

I have tried to use them, but each time I have been told that its only applicable to the rack rate. I can always find another rate thats much lower than the rack rate minus the 15-20%.

I have used them once or twice at Marriott (35% discount).

Yes you need to let them know before arrival, rate is 15% off of rack rate - call reservations and as for rate code adva to find out the $$$

Exactly my experience - always a lower rate available.
