Elite Expiration
 

I can't seem to find anywhere on the Marriott Rewards website any information on the expiration of elite status. Does MR follow the same convention as airline elite programs (i.e. good through 14 months after the calendar year in which you qualified)?

I requalified for Plat in February of this year. My new MR card indicates that it is valid through 01/04.

Apparently, elite status is good for the year in which you earn it, plus one additional calendar year. Not sure if the extra month is a gift or not.

Expect that upon requalification you'll only have your status for the next year. Marriott expended the deadline for elite qualification last year as a result of terrorism and, as such, stole time from the following year. Therefore they were compelled to issue elite status, to those that qualified, that was good for the current year and the next. Thus a 2004 expiration date.

I requalified based on 2002 activity alone. Not sure what you're getting at.

It sounds fairly outrageous, but it appears that if you qualified for 2002 platinum status by the end of 2001, your platinum status expires in 1/03, but if you weren't quite as good a customer and didn't qualify for your 2002 status until after 12/31/01, your platinum status doesn't expire until 1/04. Can this be true? What possible rational explanation can there be for this? It sounds like Marriott's best customers were penalized for qualifying too early. (I qualified for 2002 platinum status in 2001, and my status expires 1/03.)

This smells fishy. I think that some of you are being penalized unfairly. Who has a contact number or e-mail address at Marriott corporate so we can look into this?

ohmark -- I concur completely. I made it in Dec 2001 - and my Plat exp 1/03. Apparently I should have waited until 1/02 to complete. But I am not sure why 2001 nights would qualify in 2002.

Was it [email protected]? What was the email. I feel that it is only right that my PLAT gets the same extension until 2004 as others - that qualified through LESS activity in the same period. While I sympathize with some of you - my travel was NOT affected by Sept 11 (except that week of course) and some how my loyalty to Marriott seems to be less important that others who didn't travel much until into 2002?

Any others have 1/04 that didn't qualify until past 1/02?

I qualified for gold in March 02 and my status is good thru 2004. Makes me kinda happy!
