Its getting more difficult to book at Marriott

With all of the current promotions that HHonors and Starwood are running, it is getting more difficult to book at Marriott. I truly enjoy my stays at Marriott, but they fit somewhere inbetween the other two hotels. Points at Marriott seem to be difficult to come by. I have already earned my free nights with the AAA and take two promos. Am I missing something or is there still motivation for staying at Marriott?

That's too bad to hear. What is it (other than the promotions) that you prefer about the others that is causing you to make the switch? Marriott still has a lot going for it even if the Rewards program is not as competitive as some of the others.

Well for me I am switching almost 100% to HHonors ... corporate policy now does not allow us to use Marriott chains although all other hotel chains are allowed - go figure ... as I am now Hilton HHonors Diamong I have no reason not to go to HHonors for the remainder of the year and beyond.

I'm not trying to be rude or saying it is just about the points. When you have a few hotel chains who are very similar, I will go with the one who will try harder to earn my business. It just seems the others try harder.

I don't think you should limit yourself to one chain at any time. Maintaining status in Multiple Chains gives you more choices.

In certain cities I like certain hotels better than in others. San Diego, for example, the Marriot and Hyatt by the convention center are much nicer than the Westin Horton Plaza. But, in St. Louis or Toronto, the Westin's are nicer properties.

All of this is hy humble opinion of course.

Well, then! Glad to hear that we're living up to our reputation <grin>. I actually work at Toronto Marriott Eaton Centre, so it's getting a little personal. Had a couple of things to say but will step back from this thread for now.

Cheers,

For me, the problem is in getting points to post. Last four stays have required faxing in the request form. Even the award stay that I just had didn't post for the incidentals and other expenses...they can't tell me that my number wasn't in the system on that one. I sent them an email asking why this is and four days later still have not even received a 'we got your email, sit tight' reply from them. Poor service.

Has anyone heard of a 3rd quarter promotion?
