Orphan points

My marriott account is set to earn AA miles, and, to the best of my recollection, it alwasy has been. I know I've never had any partners post points into it.

When I check my account online, I see a balance of 1,790 points. I don't know where from, but they're probably several years old. I recall once getting 500 points from a hotel manager as an apology for a mishap.

Anyway, since any stays earn miles, I don't see how this total will ever grow, but it's too small to get an award to transfer to miles.

Is there any way to rescue these orphan points?

What's the conversion rate since you will need at least 10,000 points to redeem an award ?

If you can get the mypoints conversion. I have been waiting since Jan. 17 with numerous emails and phone calls.

I have accumulated over 2000 points since March. I could have had another 1000 if a vacation had not kept me from responding to a special survey on time. I believe there was a sign-up bonus, so it may take longer in the future.

The best thing in my opinion is that you can earn 5 to 20 points a day routinely just for reading e-mails and visiting web-sites, no money involved.

Need 6,500 Marriott Points to get to 10,000

That would be ~ 9,750 MyPoints at 20/day they should be rescued by August 26, 2003

At that time I'll have 2000 Airmiles.
