On my Marriott mattress quest again

Used to be that you could pretty much count on getting a full service mattress and not the 4 in foam mattress wannabees at the full service Marriott hotels. Recently I have stayed at the Marriott hotel in Providence RI and at the Philadelphia airport. To my suprise and disapointment they had the mattress imposters at both hotels. Recently stayed at the Courtyard in Union City NJ and they had the real Mc Coy mattress. Ya just can't count on nothing no more!

You get the Real Deal at the San Mateo Marriott, Boston Long Wharf, Chicago Ohare, Memphis Airport... hmm thats all that I can recall for the past month or two

The brand new Marriott San Diego Del Mar has the real deal too... one of the most comfortable beds I think I've ever slept on.

New Marriott Richmond West--nice mattresses--Orlando airport--stack of plywood.

KathyP - this is my biggest complaint at the Marriott. Sure wish I could count on a decent mattress at each property.

BTW, how are you testing these out? I had to ask.... j/k

If you're looking for quality mattresses, I humbly suggest that you take your business to Westin; Sheraton is improving theirs as well.

Call me crazy, but I like the Marriott foam mattress. Actually, I prefer the foam to even Westin't Heavenly bed. Of course, I also prefer synthetic pillows to down one's.

CRAZY!!!

I second the vote for Westin beds... after spending almost half the year in hotel rooms, I'd say those heavely beds are the best!

Why on earth would a world class leader in hotels EVER put those 4" foam things on their beds is beyond me. I understand there's a considerable cost issue, but the rest of the civilized world uses real mattresses.

Now that Westin has raised the ante, I remember hearing that Marriott has developed a knock-off, but nothing lately. Has that program been derailed due to 9-11? Anyhow, Marriott would be well served by losing all of their foam things, and getting real, high quality beds in their rooms.

Ther was a article in USA today sometime early last year about how the hotel chains were all in the process of changing their mattresses to new higher quality ones so they could compete against each other as to who had the best mattress. According to the Marriott spokesman Marriott was changing the beds at all its properties to these new mattresses and expected to have them in half their properties by June of this year. Hah! To paraphrase a old song "I ain't seen nothing yet"

I have posted in other threads about the Marriott bed product, so why not do it again.

In the last 8mos I have stayed at six Marriott properties which have the new bed product. Very comfortable and plush with double-sheeting, duvets, down comforters. The only property which didn't have the new beds was the Marriott Houston West Loop by the Galleria.

The locations were: Boston Cambridge Marriott, Atlanta Perimeter Center Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott Chicago Downtown, Evergreen Conference Resort - Stone Mountain, GA, DFW Airport North in Dallas, J.W. Marriott by the Galleria in Houston.

Staying at Del Mar tomorrow night, so that will be #7.

They are upgrading the bedding typically as the hotel undergoes extensive rooms renovation. That said, it will take a while for it to become the Marriott standard. But it is happening!

Recently at the Marriott Las Colinas in Dallas ... feather top beds there ... not sure if they were as comfortable as the beds at the San Mateo Marriott, but they were close... and definitely not the old back breakers.

This was my major complaint about Marriott hotel--horrible matresses. I did find a solution-- Westin Hotel's Heavenly bed. I switched almost a year ago and have rarely gone back to Marriott. After sooo many terrible nights of sleep at some steep prcies, I ran!
