Easy access to BOS

Can anyone suggest a hotel in the Marriott chain with the most "convenient" access to Logan Airport? I'm concerned about my 8am departure time, and wanted the "least painful" route to drop off my Avis car and make the 2hr check-in window (so, by 6am). BTW, we'll be departing from BOS on Sun 12/30 if that makes a difference.

Any help appreciated, thx.

Marriot Long Wharf is the closest to the tunnel going to the airport.

At that time of day on a Sunday, all of the following are within 15 minutes of your Avis drop-off location at the airport:
  • Marriott Long Wharf - As the name implies, this hotel is on the water. Close to downtown tourist attractions, but also adjacent to the "Big Dig". Dinner at the Chart House (next door) is worth the price or walk into the North End a few blocks away for great Italian food.
  • Marriott Copley Place - This hotel is attached to the Copley Place shopping center and is a covered walkway away from the Prudential shopping center. Many great restaurants within a few blocks.
  • Marriott Cambridge - On the Charles River. Ask for a room with a view of the Boston downtown skyline. Reasonably close to Harvard Square. Not as much within walking distance as the other choices.
  • Marriott's Custom House - Located in Boston's historic Custom House, this is a timeshare property. About three blocks from the Marriott Long Wharf. Adjacent to Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market (good) and the Big Dig (not so good). All suites - irregular shapes to fit the contours of this historic building.

If you want to ditch your car the night before, stay at the Hilton or Hyatt at the airport and take the shuttle to your terminal the next morning.

Especially if you're not familiar with Boston, the idea of dropping off your car the night before (either at the airport or at an Avis office downtown) is an extremely good one. Lots and lots of road construction going on in downtown Boston and the airport, and the signs aren't always as helpful as people might expect them to be.

If you do elect the drop-off-the-night-before option, the Marriott Copley would be the best location: in the middle of restaurants, shopping, and lots going on. On Sunday morning, it's about a 12-15 minute taxi ride to the airport. A huge advantage of the Copley Marriott is that you can get to lots and lots of shops/restaurants in Copley Place and the Prudential Center without going outside: that can be a big advantage in late December.

My second choide would be the Long Wharf Marriott. It's near the Quincy Market area which has lots of restaurants, most of them undistinguished. However, anyplace you go is a 5-10 minute walk, and the wind howling off the harbor can make for a cold time (esp. for those who come from places where 38 F. is a cold day). The LW Marriott is about an 8-10 minute taxi ride to the airport.

I have stayed at the Marriott Long Wharf. I could see the aiport from my huge room and from the Concierge Lounge, which by the way is one of the best around.

Thanks for all your feedback. Looks like all the suggestions were Marriott Hotels. How about other houses in the chain (CY, Renaissance, RI, etc)? I see that CY in Revere is only ~ 7mi away. Plus it's alot cheaper than the ones suggested (we're just looking @ an overnighter before heading to Logan.

How's Courtyard in Revere?

I am generally a big Marriott fan. However, if I were concerned about an early flight at BOS and wanted to stay in the area; I would drop the car off the night before and stay at one of the hotels on aiport grounds. There is the Hyatt (very nice hotel) or the Hilton (haven't stayed there) which is connected to the terminal. Traffic in BOS can be horrendous.

Agree. But not at the indicated travel time, Sunday morning at 5:30!

Looks like Courtyard Revere will be our choice that weekend. Called the hotel desk, and they said it should be a relatively pain-free drive into BOS for Sunday 5:30am.

Thanks for all the feedback.
