I'm not happy with the rule, but at least I am aware of it.
The OP is a member from 2000 and has only 240 posts. No wonder he is not aware of these changes that are now at least 2-3 years old! If the poster was a more frequent visitor/poster to this forum, he would not have been surprised by a now long standing rule. |

It does make me wonder, however, how often Marriott surprises elite members who are not part of the FT crowd and who generally only travel during the week, for work, who suddenly are surprised there is no guaranteed weekend breakfast when they take a leisure trip with the family.
Cheers. |

For someone who would have lounge access during the week for business, it would surprise me that he/she would not know of the changes from conversations with patrons or the attendants over the year(s). At this point, any elite who is unaware of these changes lives under a rock. |

Probably a lot. Many road warriors don't track their bennies/programs obsessively. Heck, I AM on FT a lot & there's still basic stuff about Marriott I forget.

+1 (as an Esq. for nearly 30-yrs), but from the questions asked throughout this and other threads, it would seem that nearly no one ever reads the rules of MR................

Can't agree with you on this one. Perhaps it is my legal training, but I would make an effort to familiarize myself with the rules of the program at the very least yearly, if I was not on this board.

But Sharon, I very much doubt that you would make this mistake. Perhaps not remembering that certain hotels only earn 5 points per dollar, or that certain charges do not earn benefits at certain properties, but as an elite, probably the number one benefit is Lounge access as a Platinum member, and certainly for a Gold member.
OP's surprise is of his own making. Heck, not every FTer is - yes, I've forgotten things & made many rookie Marriott mistakes even after being on FT for close to 10 years, including a HUGE one earlier this year. I'm not going to chide some other FTer if he doesn't keep track of stuff. And let's face it - the exec lounges open/closed are all over the place with whether they're open, closed w/ no coupons, closed but you get coupons. If someone isn't checking the sticky or doesn't stay often on weekends, they might not know about the property being closed and/or Marriott saying M-F only & assumed it was 7days. And while I'm on that topic - when did we start doing the instead of answering the question to commenting that other people should know better. I've seen it in a few threads (including this one) & I find it disappointing. Cheers. |
