Requalification Period

Okay, so I know Marriott is extending the requalification period until March, 2002 (I would have made it anyway).

I have just one question......do the nights that we accrue from January 1, 2002 until March 31, 2002, also count to requalification for 2003 OR do we have to requalify for 2003 in nine short months?

Thoughts, opinions, useful knowledge all appreciated http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Considering the fact I am at like around 90 nights as of mid October, I would hope that any nights from 1/02 would count for status in '03?

Unless Marriott announces a change in the terms for 2002 (qualifying for 2003), nights for the full 12 months in 2002 should count:

From the Terms and Conditions for elite status:
  • To achieve or renew elite status, the following number of personal nights must be stayed January 1 through December 31 of any given year at participating locations:

    Silver 15 to 49 nights
    Gold 50 to 74 nights
    Platinum 75 or more nights

So, in theory, the nights in this period will count to 2002 and 2003 - yippee!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

It would also appear, would it not, that your present status will be extended thru 3/31/02 regardless of your requalifying or not.

Comments?

That seems logical but, we are dealing with Marriott here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

This is a great question and is the exact reason that I came to this board tonight. Has anyone gotten confirmation that, indeed, early 2002 stays will count twice. It would be good to know definitively. Thanks!

I've written Marriott 2X on this very issue of whether the stays the first three months of 02 will count as double nights for Elite qualification and have not heard back. There is a number on the personal letter from Bill I rec'd last night for questions that i will call today. Lets see what is said by the person at the 800#

I just talked to the MR Gold service desk. They told me that stays from 1/1/02 to 3/31/02 will count as double nights for elite qualification for both years 2002 and 2003. In other words, stays between those dates, are a "Double, Double Dip" in terms of acheiving status.

It looks like I am going to be Platinum for at least the next couple of years.

Bill, you and me both! Right now, without even thinking about it, I have 21 nights at Marriott in those dates. I should have no problem with next year. Thanks!

Bill - Thank you for the answer.

I just called the MR cust svc line and they said the same thing, It (stays from 1/1 to 3/31) will count for 2002 elite status requalification.. Looks like I'm strictly a Marriott guy the first quarter of 01... Double stay credits that count toward elite, I don't see anyone else topping that promo..

Well, certainly not the "retroactive" part where you can raise last year's total in the next year, but HHonors is offering double stay credit for the first quarter for at least some of the folks who "earned" Gold for 2002 (i.e., 16 stays or 36 nights) in 2001.

At the time of my post this was an accurate statement, Hilton copied them at some point after this post
