Points for second room?
I am currently staying at a Marriott, and will have a co-worker joining me next week. He doesnt have a corporate card, so the boss has asked that I take care of his room. The question is:
Will/Should I get points/nights for paying for a second room? |

I stayed in a Marriott property last week with friends....I reserved both rooms under my name and Marriott rewards #. Friend checked out after a 5 night stay, using her own credit card, yet receipt showed my Rewards # and accumulated points, and the Front Desk Clerk specifically handed her the receipt and said "Mrs. Flyerwife will get these points credited to her account"....... then when I checked out after 9 days my receipt appeared, as usual, with my rewards # and point total. Account # appeared at the top of my friends folio with the letter designation M after it; my folio showed my account # with the designation H after it...... The stay(s) have not posted as of yet, but I fully expect both will, and, if not, I have valid folio receipts with my name and account # on both. |
OK..I should be good to go, as I booked the room on the web under my name & number. Now I just have to convince him to give me the points!

Just to let you know,
both sets of my points just posted (for the stay that myself and a friend had in 2 rooms in Orlando), however I only received the 9 nights credit towards elite status for my stay, and not the 5 nights for hers (didn't expect to). |
As long as you are paying, you can receive credit for up to a total of 3 rooms.

Interesting. There is a similar thread right now on the Bass sight. At HIs the policy is no.

Recently stayed at a Courtyard--had two rooms under my name an MR number but each was paid with a different credit card. BOTH rooms posted on my account with full points.

The "policy" states you must pay for the rooms inorder to receive credit for them...however most times I can tell you the hotels do not enforce this

How about this scenario... I will be staying with my family at a Fairfield. I have booked one room with my name and MR acct# and another with my son's name and MR acct#. I will be paying for both rooms. Any reason why my son won't get the points? BTW, he is a minor but I didn't have any trouble signing him up for Marriott Rewards. I want him to get the partner credit for the AA promo.

Experience has been that the Marriott Rewards account # that you use at the time of the reservation is the one that sticks, unless Marriott is subsequently presented with a different Rewards account #, regardless of who pays or what name appears on reservation or on credit cards.

Nope...they don't really care who's credit card is on the reservation...but only one person can receive MR credit for the room, so if your son's MR# is on the reservation, then he should receive the credit even though he didn't pay

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I didn't think it would be a problem. I've never noticed Marriott employees paying too much attention to the MR numbers anyway.

Exact same scenario for me at the Dallas Marriott Galleria. Co-worker, no corporate card, 10 night...lots for points for Dingo. He who pays is entitled to points!

Everyone, thanks for posting and sharing your experiences. I will be traveling with my cousin next month, and as this is exactly the situation we're faced with, I now know what to expect.
