** On or before May 30th, 2018** - ALL Chase Marriott cardholders that held the card as of March 15th, 2018, will receive:
  • 1 Night Stay Certificate for a Category 1-5 Marriott Hotel
  • 15 Night Stay Credit towards elite status

** CHASE HAS CLOSED ACCOUNTS AS OF MARCH 15, 2018 **

By now you should have been notified that your Marriott Rewards® Visa® Credit Card will be closing on March 15, 2018. Here's what you need to know:

• CONTINUE EARNING.
You will still be able to continue to use your Marriott Rewards Visa Credit Card and earn points on eligible purchases through March 14, 2018. After that date, you will no longer be able to make purchases or earn points on your Marriott Rewards Visa Credit Card.

• USE YOUR POINTS.
This does not impact your Marriott Rewards account. You will still be able to access and use any points and benefits that you have earned.

If you have paid an annual fee for your card any time between April 2017 and December 2017, Chase Canada has said that they will give you a prorated rebate of the fee back as a statement credit on your account.

If, however, your annual renewal fee is due between January 2018 and March 2018, you will NOT have to pay it. You may continue to use your card until March 15, 2018

As a cardholder, you will still receive your 15 Elite Night Credits and Free Night Certificate, regardless of your anniversary date. They will be deposited into your Marriott Rewards account after March 14, 2018.

Existing Chase Marriott Visa cardholders will be given a special signup to the Amex SPG CC for 25,000 welcome points and $120/yr annual fee.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Information below is left here for reference only, so that others who applied before the deadline can refer to the info.

If you find a working application link buried in this thread and apply through it don't be surprised if you do not get the advertised welcome bonuses.

  • 1 POINT PER $1 SPENT
On purchases anywhere else the marriott rewards premier visa card is accepted

It will be charged annually thereafter (whether activated or not) on your statement anniversary
  • Free night stay e-certificate Category 1-4 hotels upon approval for first-time Cardmembers - is NO LONGER OFFERED, as of October 1st, 2016

Tips:
  • Go to marriott.com and apply for a Marriott Rewards account first, and have the member/account number ready during application. If you did NOT do this then Chase will create an account for you - look for the numbers on the lower left of your new Visa card, it may be displayed there.
  • Spend at least $1 on your new card by the 9th of the month, so that the txn posts by the 11th onto your online account at Chase (https://online.chasecanada.ca).
  • Seemingly, all Canadian Chase Marriott Visa accounts cycle on the 11th of the month. Points are posted by Chase to Marriott.com and the 50K points will appear by the 18th or 19th of the month.
  • You will see the points posted on page 3 of your paper statement when it arrives in the postal mail. Chase does not provide Canadians with an online PDF statement, only transactions. If by the 19th you don't see points posted, double-check the Marriott Rewards number on your paper statement to ensure it matches your true account number, in case Chase messed up and created a new MR account on your behalf.
  • When setting up payment for the card at online banking, look for "MARRIOTT VISA" as the card name.
  • If using this card outside of Canada, ensure you prime the PIN onto the card at a CHIP/PIN terminal while IN Canada, before you leave for your trip. You cannot prime the card while in Europe (for eg.)
  • YMMV, but if you decide to cancel this card, it is advisable to do it WELL before the anniversary date, as Chase may not pro-rate a refund.
  • If you plan to use this card outside of Canada (no FX fees), you should call Chase to let them know, so your card won't get locked. I've never called when using it on extended travel in the US, but for sure I would call and let them know if I was going to use it elsewhere (Europe, Asia, Antarctica).
  • If you log out of MARRIOTT.COM and notice an 80,000 point offer, it is a USA-only offer.
  • You can find List of Marriott Hotels and their Categories via below searches
    http://www.marriott.com/rewards/poin...dType=Standard
    http://www.marriott.com/hotel-search.mi
  • 2017 Marriott Rewards Category/Tier Update: On March 7, 2017, 23% of our hotels and resorts will change category.

Yep; I did a bunch of mass Amazon.com purchases that night, to ship to a hotel for an upcoming trip, but stupidly I chose "standard shipping". Turns out only one charge made it through Visa, and the rest were delayed until their shipping date... when Amazon then tried to charge them. Arg! Wish I'd just chosen the two-day shipping, as the FX fee caused me to cancel a few orders

Mine was also end of August; purchase points posted on March 18th, but nothing else yet.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one without the 15 nights credit and the free night certificate. I'm keeping an eye on my account and my parents; nothing yet. I will post it here when it happens and hope others will too. If they give us the runaround, I'll just have to have fun with it (I always win at this game), but Chase Canada doesn't exist anymore so I don't know how well that will work. Cheers!

A couple of things:

1) You have to call to get a cheque for any credit balance. It is not sent out automatically. Mine was $72 from the annual fee refund.
2) I asked the agent about the free night certificate and she said it would be deposited at the end of May 2018.

Especially when I will use a SPG Amex for everything in Marriott / Starwood hotel (in which case the 2 points per C$ worth it even with forex fees).
It's not totally useless; you get 6 lounge visits (perhaps worth $30 / each if you travel enough) and you do get a scotia point for spending (and some categories get 2 but the Scotia AMEX is better for that anyway). So agreed if you do virtually no foreign spending it's not your best choice but it's not bad as a middle of the road card. I got one.

Lounge visit : I have AC E50K status + Priority Pass, so I am covered.
2 Scotia Points for spending : I get 2 Capital One Aspire point on everything. For a net cost of 20$ per year. And Capital One points are way more flexible than Scotia ones (you can paid partial or total cost of any travel spending you made with points).
So for me this would be only for foreign expense which is not worth it.
But I agree, for someone without anything else who travel 2-3 times a year outside the country it may be useful.
Still not very good for domestic purchase. The Tangerine Mastercard is close in term of cash back and it's free.

Definitely a story of YMMV. I don't have status anymore, and I do have that Aspire card as well, but Cap 1 doesn't offer that card anymore. MBNA has 2% one right now apparently. I do however spend several thousand a year on foreign exchange, so it's worth it, and I have PP from my AMEX, but sometimes have more than one guest, so that's nice . . . Both our comments suggest that it's worth a little time for people to fully investigate their options.

But it seems that some of us already got the night certificate. And the silver status.

FYI - The Scotiabank Amex Gold is more flexible than the Cap one (I have both). You have 12 months to redeem points against any travel , partial or full cost. Insurance package better too.

Well, it's not what they wrote on their website. They say it must either been booked using Scotia travel services or if you want to book the travel yourself and credit afterward you need at least 5000 points (50$) and you must have enough point to pay for the whole cost. With Capital One I can even get credit for a public transportation ticket or a cab ride.
Now, if they don't give the correct information on their website...

on the other hand, Scotia only allows you to use each travel expense once. I emptied my account to partially offset a 1k charge, but now I can't redeem against it any more. Capital one allows you to do so.

I now have to go out of my way to charge some travel expense onto the Scotia again

Just received a response from Chase via the secure message service online:

Thank you for taking the time to write to us. We do not have a specific date for when your Marriott e-certificate will be applied to your account, only that it will be applied after March 15, 2018. If you have any questions concerning your e-certificate please call Marriott at 1-888-450-4442. Thank you.

Unless this rewards program is different than the Scotia Gold rewards....I redeemed $750 towards a much more expensive cruise recently. Might be something to check out more thoroughly if one was to think about the new card. I myself not interested.

EDIT: Just confirmed that you can do partial redemptions up to 12 months after travel purchase posts. This is the wording from the Scotiabank Amex gold site when I log in to my own account :'
  1. Alternatively, you can book travel through any travel provider on your own using your Scotia Rewards Program Card, and then redeem Scotia Rewards points towards your purchase at a later time. You have up to 12 months from the travel purchase date to take advantage of this feature. To take advantage of this option, choose ‘Apply Points to Travel’ from the Redeem Now page."

i goess to each his own. I don't redeem for small amounts at a time (like a $50 charge). If I have no further travel in my future, I'll wait until several months later to redeem the charge so as to use up as much credit as possible.
