** On or before May 30th, 2018** - ALL Chase Marriott cardholders that held the card as of March 15th, 2018, will receive:
  • 1 Night Stay Certificate for a Category 1-5 Marriott Hotel
  • 15 Night Stay Credit towards elite status

** CHASE HAS CLOSED ACCOUNTS AS OF MARCH 15, 2018 **

By now you should have been notified that your Marriott Rewards® Visa® Credit Card will be closing on March 15, 2018. Here's what you need to know:

• CONTINUE EARNING.
You will still be able to continue to use your Marriott Rewards Visa Credit Card and earn points on eligible purchases through March 14, 2018. After that date, you will no longer be able to make purchases or earn points on your Marriott Rewards Visa Credit Card.

• USE YOUR POINTS.
This does not impact your Marriott Rewards account. You will still be able to access and use any points and benefits that you have earned.

If you have paid an annual fee for your card any time between April 2017 and December 2017, Chase Canada has said that they will give you a prorated rebate of the fee back as a statement credit on your account.

If, however, your annual renewal fee is due between January 2018 and March 2018, you will NOT have to pay it. You may continue to use your card until March 15, 2018

As a cardholder, you will still receive your 15 Elite Night Credits and Free Night Certificate, regardless of your anniversary date. They will be deposited into your Marriott Rewards account after March 14, 2018.

Existing Chase Marriott Visa cardholders will be given a special signup to the Amex SPG CC for 25,000 welcome points and $120/yr annual fee.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Information below is left here for reference only, so that others who applied before the deadline can refer to the info.

If you find a working application link buried in this thread and apply through it don't be surprised if you do not get the advertised welcome bonuses.

Tips:
  • Go to marriott.com and apply for a Marriott Rewards account first, and have the member/account number ready during application. If you did NOT do this then Chase will create an account for you - look for the numbers on the lower left of your new Visa card, it may be displayed there.
  • Spend at least $1 on your new card by the 9th of the month, so that the txn posts by the 11th onto your online account at Chase (https://online.chasecanada.ca).
  • Seemingly, all Canadian Chase Marriott Visa accounts cycle on the 11th of the month. Points are posted by Chase to Marriott.com and the 50K points will appear by the 18th or 19th of the month.
  • You will see the points posted on page 3 of your paper statement when it arrives in the postal mail. Chase does not provide Canadians with an online PDF statement, only transactions. If by the 19th you don't see points posted, double-check the Marriott Rewards number on your paper statement to ensure it matches your true account number, in case Chase messed up and created a new MR account on your behalf.
  • When setting up payment for the card at online banking, look for "MARRIOTT VISA" as the card name.
  • If using this card outside of Canada, ensure you prime the PIN onto the card at a CHIP/PIN terminal while IN Canada, before you leave for your trip. You cannot prime the card while in Europe (for eg.)
  • YMMV, but if you decide to cancel this card, it is advisable to do it WELL before the anniversary date, as Chase may not pro-rate a refund.
  • If you plan to use this card outside of Canada (no FX fees), you should call Chase to let them know, so your card won't get locked. I've never called when using it on extended travel in the US, but for sure I would call and let them know if I was going to use it elsewhere (Europe, Asia, Antarctica).
  • If you log out of MARRIOTT.COM and notice an 80,000 point offer, it is a USA-only offer.
  • You can find List of Marriott Hotels and their Categories via below searches

anyone else missing their Marriott Points for the Jan 11 statement? Jan 18th come and gone and no points in the account.

---- added ----

never mind, look like a Marriott web site issue. I was login to my wife account, but the transaction history was still showing my own. Close out my browser and re-login and everything is good.

Just wanted to remind everyone that if you have NOT had any activity in your Marriott.com account in the past 2 years, then those points will expire, starting next week, on Feb 01, 2016.

http://www.marriott.com/marriott-rew.../expiration.mi
Starting February 1, 2016, accumulated points will be removed from your account if you do not have a qualifying activity in the prior 2 years*.

The following activities do not count toward maintaining an active status in the Marriott Rewards® program:

Gifting or transferring points
Receiving points as a gift or transfer
Earning points through social media programs, such as #MRPoints
If you have an active Chase Marriott.com Visa, then you probably don't have to worry, as your monthly purchases have been earning points for you. We have a couple of Marriott.com accounts in our family which are due to see points vanish on Feb 1st. One is just a few thousand, so probably will let it just vaporize.

Or just pay the ten bucks to either transfer it, or pay twelve to buy 1k points and extend it for another two years

True. But he means to transfer all points out into a non-expiring account, which should work.

Hmm, $10 to save 2000 points? Worth it?

No, you pay ten bucks to transfer all the points out and empty the account. What happens to the account afterwards doesn't matter

I think Marriott lets you transfer the necessary number of points to a spouse/partner at the time of an award booking, so that might be an option to consider vs letting it expire.

The account with 2000 MR points isn't worth saving. Can't even convert them to say Aeroplan as it requires a minimum 10K MR > 2K Aero. Those points will vaporize. Those were free points anyway, from some promotion in the past, though I can't recall what it was anymore, prolly over 5-10yrs ago.

The other account has +40K, so I do need to save them from sloughing off into the gutter. I could do a merge, but the no-fee spousal option (if it still exists) won't work for me as I'm not ready to book yet plus I'm not short of miles in my own account, which I believe is a requirement. But even so, this won't save the points unless I can use them ALL for a required booking, as this doesn't extend the life of any untransferred points.

So, it's either move them all for $10, or find another way to extend them, QUICK!

If anyone has done the $10 move of points, does it need to be done on a weekday, and how long does it take? Wondering what kind of lead time I will need before expiry date Feb 01, 2016, which is a Monday.

$12.50 purchase of 1k points will extend it. Even then, it doesn't update the activity date immediately..

Marriott has a shopping portal, but since points can take 2 months to post, not something to try on short notice

Thanks! I did try their shopping portal (ShopMyWay) and made a small purchase over the weekend. The transaction showed up after two days at the ShopMyWay portal, but still lists the points as "Pending" and thus has not made it's way into Marriott.com. I did the same, to extend United miles, and it posted points to MileagePlus within 3-4 days.

I'll give ShopMyWay a couple of more days to see if there's any movement, but as you mentioned, it could take 2 months to post. If no movement, I'll likely pay the $10 and transfer all the points out to another non-expiring account.

Well, that was disappointing. The $2 online purchase at Marriott's shopping portal ShopMyWay posted within 2 days to the ShopMyWay transactions page, and the points have remained in Pending state for over a week. I didn't get a chance to call Marriott till late yesterday, Feb 1st, expiration day for my points. I was going to do the $12.50 purchase of points (or $10 transfer all points out to other) not knowing if they would post in time, but the AMAZING rep said he would just extend my expiry by a few months...and it should give my ShopMyWay $2 purchase (20 points) enough time to eventually post. That is EXCELLENT customer service on Marriott's part. ^

I don't remember people saying if they received the 15 extra CC nights in their Marriott account on a second application...
Just to finish up this history. My wife cancelled her previous Chase MR Visa on October 8th. I planned on waiting 6 months before reapplying, but panicked when I read about not being able to register online and used the link at the top. The 50K point info showed up, and I registered her. I didn't get auto approval, but the card showed up in 2 weeks. She never received the 15 nights in the account (I knew the cert wasn't a go).

Somebody above mentioned that maybe the previous card was reactivated. I was a bit nervous, but still had her make the $500 worth of purchases. Yesterday I checked her Marriott account, and the 50K of points showed up.

So reapplying in this case after 45 days worked. No free cat 1-4 night, no 15 nights, but the 50K points did arrive. ^

Did you wait till the 11th/18th after the 1st purchase?
you don't need $500 minimum spending on it

Good to hear, I'll re-apply in 2 months then

D'oh! It was the US version that had the $500 minimum spend. That's ok, it's her preferred card anyway.

Spend was in a new statement period, and the 50K points showed up with the normal 18th of the month import.

Other than for foreign purchases and Marriott spend, it's a terrible card return wise to be her "preferred card"!!!
