Any news on the 712 award (150K)? I'm at 162K, and expecting another 5K or so with my trip to SYD next month. Trying to figure out whether I should go for 200K (at least 180K and buy the rest) or just cash in the 150K for 60K UA miles and a 5 night cert.

I still think (and hope) that they want their award to continue to be the best in the business, so while it might have a sliding scale for distance and hotel quality, I don't think that they will make the other changes people are speculating and worrying about.
Of course, this is all pure speculation on my part as well. I'm still waiting for < 2k points to post so I can cash out now. -David |

NoStressHere:
A URL link with tug1.net or tug2.net is a link to the Timeshare Users Group, which also has a good Marriott forum. Marriott Timeshare Owners are also large stakeholders in Marriott Rewards. I own a Marriott timeshare and I'm also a frequent traveler, so I read both boards regularly. If I post a link like that, it will take you to a related thread. See also an earlier thread here, where the Curator of Yesterland was nice enough to point us to the discussions on TUG: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum63/HTML/000643.html -David [This message has been edited by LIH Prem (edited 04-23-2001).] |
David - and everyone, for that matter -
it's now very easy to put in a usefully descriptive title as a hyperlink, rather than the url gobbledygook which may give no hint at all as to what the link is about. Marriott Reward Changes on TUG takes you to the same place as http://www.tug1.net/tugbbs1/Forum19/HTML/000351.html but we know what it is in advance and can decide if we want to follow the link. Similarly, Changes to Marriott Rewards? is much more informative than http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum63/HTML/000643.html It's easy too! When you're posting, just click on the *UBB Code is ON link directly to the left of the box you type your posts in. The very first subject is URL Hyperlinks, which tells you exactly how to put links, and links with titles, in your posts. You can even copy the formula into your post and then substitute the real data until you get used to it (that's what I did). It has the added benefit of eliminating those incredibly long URLs that crop up occasionally and mess up everybody's screen. I didn't know this was an option until Dataton on the Delta forum showed the way, so I thought I'd mention it here. (Of course, it helps if you put the correct URL in, however you do it!) To msrohud and any others considering redeeming a 714: if you don't think you can use both 10-day hotel certs, you can turn one or both of them back into Marriott for 106,250 points EACH. We have done this several times. There is a $25.00 per transaction fee. I'm assuming we will still be able to do this until the "changes" officially take place.

It might be better to take a 713 and the 7 day cert that could be rolled over for a year and more easily "spent" than a 10 day cert, especially if you are not able to redeem them for the 100,000 plus miles! |
Am I to understand that I can redeem my MR points for award code 713 or 714 (or others that include air transport) and receive a direct deposit of miles into the airline frequent flyer account of my choice? Which MR awards is this provided for and how many miles do you receive? One of the posts here says something about 60,000 x 2. Is this referring to award 713 which provides 2 tickets?

MileKing:
I just cashed in reward #713 for 200,000 points and got 120,000 miles in my AA account automatically and a voucher for a week's stay at any Marriott. I did it with a phone call to customer service. I told them I wanted to go to Europe on AA and that is what my certificate and letter states. Previous threads have indicated that 120,000 miles is the max you can get no matter where you say you want to go, but it could be less if you tell them a domestic location. Now that I have the miles I am free to use them however I want through AA and the hotel stay certificate is good anywhere for all practical purposes if there is space available. ------------------ |

Yes. See this thread. Yes. -David [This message has been edited by LIH Prem (edited 04-23-2001).] |
The new Marriott Rewards schedule for travel packages is now available on-line at Marriott's site.
It's a grid with points based on (1) the number of frequent flyer miles needed and (2) the category (1 through 7) of hotel you plan to stay in. Most Marriott resorts are in category 6. Category 7 (the highest) is limited to 10 major hotels in London, Paris, New York, Boston, San Francisco and Scottsdale. On another point previously discussed here, the new Terms and Conditions provide that transferring points to spouse accounts for the purpose of claiming an award is still allowed, but now with no expiration date on the privilege. [This message has been edited by Goober2 (edited 04-24-2001).] |
The Terms and Conditions also make it clear that the old awards (such as the 713) can be ordered until July 31 and will be valid for one year from the date of issuance, rather than two years as has been the case for some recently issued 713 awards.
The expiration date doesn't really matter for miles deposited in an airline FF acount, but it will for the hotel certifiacte. |
Well at least Marriott gave everyone a reasonable grace period till July 31. Goober, I redeemed two 713's last month and both hotel certificates expired a year from date of issue, not two.
|
The hotel certificates for 713's always had a 1 year expiration on the ones I've received.
If the hotel certificate was from a timeshare purchase then the expiration was 2 years. At least this is what I've seen. BUT no matter now with the point inflation of the new awards ;-( |
