concierge lounge

I am staying at a marriot for the first time in a long time. I am a HH gold (neary D) and like the club rooms with free beer and spirits, but just had to pay $4.00 for an amstel - is this normal

Not sure, I thought they offer freebies for Elite levels. But it all depends on where you're staying at I guess..

that's the one thing Marriott are lousy at, you will pay for booze

sigh...

Most of the concierge lounges use the 'honor' system and you fill out the charge yourself. I has been my experience that the charge only shows up on my account ~50% of the time.

I think the free booze at Hiltons only applies to the non-US properties, though.

Does anyone know this for certain?

I have yet to visit a Hilton Exec lounge in the U.S. with free booze.

I've only seen free booze at the Residence Inn and that is beer and wine only.. Never seen it at the Hilton or Marriotts. Although Marriott doesn't surprise me on the lack of booze.. I won't go into religion here

VERY GOOD Point!!

I guess that my surmise is correct, that it is only at the Int'l and Canadian Hiltons where the booze flows for free?

Int'l and Canadian What????? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I've been to various Canadian properties that do charge for alcoholic drinks in their lounge, including Starwood and Marriott properties! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Hilton Quebec City --

No charge for liquor and beer, at least as of 2 years ago at the Winter Carnival! They also comped me parking when staying on the Executive Floor!

Fort Lauderdale Airport Hilton used to have complimentary liquor in their lounge. I also remember being served a flute of bubbly in the hotel lobby when we were checking in there. But that's been years ago now. I've just recently made Hilton Gold, so I'm not that knowledgeable yet.

We used to be fairly high in the Hyatt program, and I can think of several US Hyatts that had complimentary liquor. Here's the trade-off: the lounge would only be open for a short time in the early evening, i.e. 5-7pm. Then it would all, food and drink, be put away. (As I recall, Hilton ran things the same way, stuff was only available for a short time.) If your business ran past 7pm, you were SOL, and the lounges tended to be very crowded when they were serving.

In the long run we prefer being able to use the lounge until 10 or 11 pm, even if it means paying for drinks.
