What are Marriott points worth? for comparison

I am not a frequent Marriott user (about 3 stays per year) but am a gold level with the Visa.

I am going to Maui in December and am trying to decied whether to buy 15% off coupons at Volumebuy or go for the double points if I pay direct with MaRRIOTT VISA.Of corse I can have single points if I use the Visa at Volumebuy. The real question for me is Delta Amex or MVisa , if I do get a few points with Marriott is it worth it.

I will probabluy spend $700 at the hotel.
I have the $79 renovation rate for 6 days at the Marriott Maui.

Do the Marriott cheques work at the Ritz
Carlton associated with Marriott?
The last 2 nights are at the Ritz at $315 per. Do you think I get double points at the Ritz?

Any input would be appreciated.

To answer and clarify your questions, here is the best attempt that I can give you:

First of all, the Daily Double VISA promotion ended on June 30, 2000. If there is another "double points VISA" promotion that you have discovered, please fill us all in.

Secondly, Ritz Carlton will not accept Marriott Cheques. I tried to use mine in Arizona and they did not honor them. On the reverse side of the Marriott Cheques, it is stated the nine "Marriott Properties" that are participating in the Marriott Cheques program.

Finally, you will receive full Marriott Rewards points for using your Marriott Cheques. They are treated just like cash at any of the participating properties...just don't try to get change back for any outstanding balances because it states right on the back of the certificate that change or cash cannot be returned for any unused portion of the certificate.

I hope that I have been of assistance to you. I purchase Marriott Cheques frequently from VolumeBuy.com and GiftCertificates.com through GreenPoints.com. This is a fantastic way to accumulate additional "loyalty points" through many different sources. Also, do not forget to use your affinity credit card to earn more points...you certainly cannot get enough of those!

Thanks for the reply.
I am still a little bit confused. I was not refering to the double points program that is expiring (I was sadly ignorant) but the normal bonus of 3 points for every dollar spent with the Marriott Visa at Marriott. Is that worth it over the 15 % discount at volumebuy.
You wrote that the Marriott cheques are good at "9 Properties" does this mean 9 different trade marks or 9 specific hotels, that is to ask can I use them at the Marriott Maui in December.

Thanks for the input.

Take the $$$

If Marriott points are worth about 1.0 - 1.2 cents (at least from the awards that I've cashed in), then 15% is better than 3-4% back.

Agree with you 100% Tino!

When you can receive a 15% discount over and above making the best deal at any Marriott property (making your reservations directly with Marriott), you are doing well.

Also, to answer the question...

You may use these certificates at any Marriott Hotel & Resort (including in Maui), Renaissance Hotel & Resort, Courtyard by Marriott, Marriott Conference Center, Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Residence Inn, and three other types of properties that are operated by Marriott (I do not have a cert. in front of me at the present time). When you can go to VolumeBuy.com and purchase these things for $42.50 for each $50 certificate, you are getting a great deal. Also, it gets even better when you can apply the entire amount toward your Marriott Rewards points and get your points or miles on your affinity credit card.

Thanks again.
I am going to buy the Marriot Cheques and save the 15%.
