Does anyone know who won these in the hotel category?

Hopefully Marriott will learn a thing or two from the SPG program!

dg1 Jan 29, 2000 1:43 pm

Here's one thing to learn:

Keep the concierge lounge open on the weekends! I am at the SFO Airport Marriott now, and this is the first hotel I've been to where they keep the lounge open on the weekends. Got me some donuts, drinks and other snacks to tide me over till an early big dinner. Combined with everyone being so friendly here in SFO, so far I'm really enamored with the hotel.

I told Marriott THEY should have NOT cancelled the airline bonuses. Based on that MISTAKE... They DID NOT get my vote.. And with Marrriotts capacity controls, and blackout dates.. Forget it Marriott... I am glad Starwood won.. Marriott are YOU listening?

dg1: Don't forget that you are eligible for 1,000 bonus points per night (Friday & Saturday) at the SFO Airport Marriott through Feb 12, 2000.

i agree with all of the comments here - especially the comment re: Concierge Lounge. I especially resent the Lounges being closed on the weekends - particularly in airport hotels. some of them are not even open on Sun. nights anymore.

Other areas of improvement include:
1. Special unlisted # for Platinum Marquis members. sometimes i am on hold for 10 minutes trying to reserve a room.
2. The capacity controls should be reduced, especially for Platinum members.
3. Account postings should be accurate and timely.

MARRIOTT - ARE YOU LISTENING?

I agree with above individuals.

i am really pleased that both Starwood and Continental WON - they really deserved the awards.

The "Freddie" awards do not necessarily mean that Marriot is not the "best" in the categories most important to me. I appreciate the great variety of awards, the hotels and resorts all over the world where I can use them. I have always found Marriot's customer service to be outstanding.

Flyaway, I did not know about the 1000 point bonus. How does that work? Where did you hear about it? Hopefully I don't have to do anything particular since I'm checking out tomorrow morning and haven't given them any special codes.

So far I spend an average of $100 a night for my stays at Marriott. I get:

1000 Marriott points at 10 per dollar
300 Marriott points at 3 per for CM Platinum
2222 Marriott points part of the megabonus
----
3522 Marriott Rewards points per night http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Not to mention Platinum Boxes, Gourmet Chocolates, Concierge Lounges, courteous staff, lotsa hotels at good locations, great rates, good buffet breakfasts, reliable airport transportation and more.

Marriott got my vote for the Freddies last year, and will get it next year I'm sure. Of course I'm sure they are more happy I vote with my wallet, too and am trying to push my best friend to use a Marriott hotel for his hundred plus guests at his upcoming wedding http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

dg1: Hope you are having a great time in SFO! I have attached the link which refers to the bonus at the SFO Airport Marriott. You can also refer to the December 1999 MR newsletter.

www.marriottrewards.com/offers/extra_points.asp#california

You may want to mention this at the front desk before you check-out.

I too voted for Marriott for the Freddies! It really is my preferred hotel chain. They haev treated me extremly well!

Marriott needs to have NO BLACK OUT DATES. With Starwood if have the points, I have the room. Any time Any place. This won my vote.

PG Jan 31, 2000 9:55 am

dg1 - as a comparison for Hilton:

$100 spent

1000 Hilton points
1000 pt bonus for choosing NW
250 pt Gold member bonus
250 pt airline bonus
1000 pt internet booking bonus
1000 pt (part of 4000 pts for 4 stays)
(I did not have a partner car rental)
1000 NW miles

So 4500 points + 1000 airline miles

doc Jan 31, 2000 10:18 am

Looks good, PG- very good! Yet, does 1 HH point 1pt= 1 MR point in terms of redemption?
