Silver Status / Reservation Questions

Hey Guys,
Just a couple questions that I hopefully can get answered here.

- I have bounced back between Silver and Gold. I've been stuck on Silver for awhile now. To be honest, it doesn't seem like there are much benefitts from it. Are there anything that I don't know about that comes with it? I know it says Gold+ you get upgraded to rooms. That doesn't work with Silver, right? Just looking for some advice here and tips about what Silver can do for me.

- If a family friend wants to use my Marriott Account and pay for it with his credit card, can he use my account? The way I did this before was have someone book through my account and use their credit card number. Once they make the reservation, I'd call the hotel and tell them they will be arriving before I will and it is okay to let them check in under my name. At the end, they pay and walk out. There happy because they got a card that says "elite member" on it and I got the points. Can this be done? Any tips?

Looking for anything else anyone wants to say.

Thanks guys,
Dave

Having someone else use your account and credit nights/stays to it is a great way to ask Marriott to cancel your MR account altogether. I can't imagine this is even remotely permissible under the program rules and seems very unethical anyway. If your friend wants elite benefits, they should have their own MR account and acquire the required nights themselves. The Chase cards are a great way to get started doing this, IMO, which could highly benefit you as well if you have one. You get automatic silver and a free Cat 1-5 night each year with the Premier card for the $85 annual fee.

Especially when you signed up on FT with might likely be your real name, Dave. ;)
