only if you used your MR's number and chose a king bedded room which would show up in your reservation in the guarantee section (and the compensation is limited by brand so not necessarily $100)

Thanks.

I never new this. I've been gold for a few months. And silver for years. Never had a problem with room types saved in profile. But this is a nice card to play.

Note that your reservation may only say that your bed type is "requested" and not guaranteed. That doesn't matter, the guarantee is for a Gold/Plat to get the bed-type they requested.

Also note that the hotel in question does need to actually have that bed-type in their inventory (i.e. some RIs may not have any King beds but only Queens, therefore, you could invoke the guarantee only on not receiving a Queen in that case.)

Did you get Platinum last year by staying 75 nights in 2010? I have been Platinum for many years but had only 15 nights last year. They still renewed me as Platinum. So, maybe you can see if they can bump you back?

On the subject of room type, I suppose what is specified on the reservation overrides what is in the profile?

True. My profile has my preference as a King bed. But when I'm traveling with the family, I may want two beds in a room rather than one. So I will purposely make a reservation for 2 beds. In that case, the reservation will show that is what I requested. And thus that is what Gold/Plat elite status provides the guarantee that I should get.

yes, most hotels claim this is not the case, but you can push it. On a reward stay where they didn't honor the bed type I ended up getting 60% of the points back after I contacted Marriott.

Question to the OP. Why didn't you but back Plat? Especially if you think you'll make Plat this year.

At full service properties, if you reservation is for a king, one will be guaranteed.

At limited service properties (CY, FI, SHS, RI), the different beds are different room types. If they are sold out of king rooms when you make your reservation, you are SOL.

Could you have had sixty or more nights of rollover from last year--i.e, more than 75 + 60 nights the previous year?

I didn't know this either. So if we are gold or platinum we could invoke this even though the bed types were not guaranteed on the reservation? I requested a king, but my reservation showed up as not guaranteed.

Nope. No rollover.

Marriott Concierge has chimed in on it with http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marri...ml#post2866358.

Socrates also chimed in with some info a little more recently with http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/16441397-post13.html. Actually, you might find it enlightening to read that whole thread.
