Compensation for Fire Alarm at Marriott
I was at the marriott in park ridge, NJ last night. Fire alarms went off and all guests were sent outside for a few hours. Has anyone been in a similar circumstance and have an idea what proper compensation should be.

Would you prefer that they disabled the fire alarms so that you were not disturbed in case of a false alarm?

Not trying to be a jerk here but my answers would be:
(a) Yes, I have been in similar situations.
(b) $0
Not sure why compensation would be warranted for a fire alarm. Things happen. I wouldn't think of asking for anything but maybe others think differently when these situations arise. JMHO.

Compensation is that there wasn't a fire & you didn't die. Just sayin...
Have been in a few fire alarm situations with different chains. Never occurred to me to ask for compensation.
Cheers.

I understand that a real fire alarm is not a joke.
But I also believe that a large hotel chain should have a process in place to immediately arrange for the guests to stay at other hotels in the area.
When you stay with a large hotel you're hoping they will take care of you and not make you wait outside in the cold.

BTW - I'm sure the Marriott property didn't want to leave you all out in the cold, but they can't let guests back in until the fire dept gives its ok.
Cheers.

Compensation? I don't think that's necessary or realistic. However, a note from the GM explaining what happened might be enlightening (someone set off fire extinguishers on XX floor, etc...)

I would have appreciated at least an offer, like we're not sure when this fire issue will be resolved, but would you like us to check availability at other marriott properties in the area?
I don't think that is an unrealistic expectation.

At a non-Marriott hotel in Memphis (Westin Beale Street) we had a fire alarm at 11pm, PLUS then the power went out for the entire hotel (AC included) from 1am to 5am, and when it came back on, the surge blew out EVERY SINGLE LIGHTBULB in the hotel!
There was a sign in the lobby saying no one would be charged for the room for the night before, which was a nice touch.
