Taste of Gold/Platinum
You are given gold/platinum status for 90 days, and you must complete a certain number of nights/stays to retain that status for the remainder of the year plus the following year. This promotion is targeted only.

Road to Gold/Platinum (a.k.a. Gold/Platinum Challenge)
Currently, this will allow you to move up one level with a shortened stay criteria. You have 90 days to complete 6/9 stays to receive Gold/Platinum status. If you do no qualify, you are eligible to start another challenge one year and one day after the 90th day of the challenge you just did. When you sign up, the MR CSR should tell you the date you are eligible to do another challenge.

FAQ

Q: What qualifies as a stay?
A: One paid night at a Marriott-brand (including Ritz-Carlton Hotels) hotel. Cash+points rate does not qualify. SPG hotels does not qualify (as of 03/2017). Some exclusions may apply, someone please help fill this in.

Q: Can I simply book multiple, consecutive one-night stays at the same hotel?
A: No.

Q: Can I jump between multiple Marriotts in the area?
A: Yes. As long as you book at least one night at each property. Special care must be taken if the Marriott properties are next to each other. They may share the same back-office. While you may book one night at each property on consecutive nights, which should count as two stays, it may only count as one stay. A call to Marriott Rewards should split them up correctly.

Q: Can I book multiple nights at different properties for the same night to get multiple stay credits?
A: No. Regardless how many different places you book for the same night, it all counts as one stay.

Q: Can I sign up for both Gold and Platinum Challenges at the same time?
A: No. Only one challenge per year.

Q: I'm Silver, can I do the Platinum challenge?
A: No. This is only a one-level promotion. You are only eligible for the Gold challenge.

Q: Can a non-elite do the Gold Challenge
A: No. Must be Silver.

Q: I just completed my 6th/9th stay. When should I see my new status?
A: Good job! Your new status should appear after your 6th/9th stay posts to your account.

Q: Can I book a meeting to get a stay credit?
A: No. You will only receive 10 night credits, not a stay credit.

so it is safe to say, that you can get a Gold/Platinum challenge without saying I have status at another hotel that I want to try to match?

Would RC stays count toward the 12 or 18 nights?

Does anyone know whether you get the points/nights credited to your account when you are doping the challenge. So far I have clocked up 14 night but these are the points aren't showing on my account.

You should be earning elite night and point credit for stays during a platinum challenge. Are you staying at properties outside of North America? It seems that Marriott properties outside of North America do not post as consistently. I do not travel as much outside of the USA as many, but I did run into trouble in late 2009 with one stay at County Hall Marriott where an internet charge did not post to my account (it was an award stay). I had to fax in a copy of the bill to get credit for the incidental spending.

You should be able to call and ask for a missing stay to be posted if it is within the past six months and in the USA/Canada. You will have to do more work for international stays that do not post properly.

I have a stay upcoming in TheAmsterdam Renissance Hotel. If I signup for Marriott rewards account will they:

a) agree to make my account platinum for 90 days i.e. give me a challenge

b) will this platinum status give me platinum benefits on a hotwire.com booking?

Also do they ask for proof of status with another chain(I have Hilton and SPG Gold)

Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

a) It is possible they will do that, but you will have to call and ask to verify.

b) While you are a Plat, you should get your Plat benefits on virtually any stay. No matter the type of reservation. Note that your Plat # has to be in the reservation or the hotel won't know you are a Plat member, but you can let them know when you are checking in. This works even for blind "bid" type reservations like Priceline. The caveat is that you may not always get points or night credit for the stay, but you should still get your elite benefits (like upgrades, Plat amenity choice, etc.)

Thanks Hope, so I just call their European membership reward line(I live in UK) and ask about their Platinum Challenge? They should know what I'm talking about.

Great to hear that benefits apply to third partywebsite bookings, unlike many programs.

Check your act online

Your act should say how many nights needed to RENEW current level. Congrats

PS--It takes at least 48 hours for elite nights to post.

I saw the "renew" in my profile. This is cool. I travel primarily for pleasure, so I will enjoy these benefits for 2012. Especially over in China. Now if Marriott would only open a property in Qindao . . .
