Taste of Gold/Platinum
You are given gold/platinum status for 90 days, and you must complete a certain number of nights/stays to retain that status for the remainder of the year plus the following year. This promotion is targeted only.

Road to Gold/Platinum (a.k.a. Gold/Platinum Challenge)
Currently, this will allow you to move up one level with a shortened stay criteria. You have 90 days to complete 6/9 stays to receive Gold/Platinum status. If you do no qualify, you are eligible to start another challenge one year and one day after the 90th day of the challenge you just did. When you sign up, the MR CSR should tell you the date you are eligible to do another challenge.

FAQ

Q: What qualifies as a stay?
A: One paid night at a Marriott-brand (including Ritz-Carlton Hotels) hotel. Cash+points rate does not qualify. SPG hotels does not qualify (as of 03/2017). Some exclusions may apply, someone please help fill this in.

Q: Can I simply book multiple, consecutive one-night stays at the same hotel?
A: No.

Q: Can I jump between multiple Marriotts in the area?
A: Yes. As long as you book at least one night at each property. Special care must be taken if the Marriott properties are next to each other. They may share the same back-office. While you may book one night at each property on consecutive nights, which should count as two stays, it may only count as one stay. A call to Marriott Rewards should split them up correctly.

Q: Can I book multiple nights at different properties for the same night to get multiple stay credits?
A: No. Regardless how many different places you book for the same night, it all counts as one stay.

Q: Can I sign up for both Gold and Platinum Challenges at the same time?
A: No. Only one challenge per year.

Q: I'm Silver, can I do the Platinum challenge?
A: No. This is only a one-level promotion. You are only eligible for the Gold challenge.

Q: Can a non-elite do the Gold Challenge
A: No. Must be Silver.

Q: I just completed my 6th/9th stay. When should I see my new status?
A: Good job! Your new status should appear after your 6th/9th stay posts to your account.

Q: Can I book a meeting to get a stay credit?
A: No. You will only receive 10 night credits, not a stay credit.

Has anyone tried to get the Taste of (or Road to) challenges post merge? I assume it would be renamed Taste of Plat and Taste of Plat Premier?

Currently a plat but would like to get to Plat Premier - 9 stays in 3 months would be no problem for me...

BTW, any way to view when you status expires or do you just have to figure out when you earned status?

I think the validity is good till [Year Earned] + [Following Year]. So if i earned in 2018, my status will last me until Jan 2020.

Can anyone who has completed a Gold or Platinum challenge in the past determine definitively whether or not the status was included in their Years of Status counter? If included, please specify if it was completed this year or prior to this year. Thanks.

It's unclear what the taste of Plat Premier would be under the new program. There's really no experiential difference between Plat and Plat Premier, other than potential suite upgrades at the Ritz. Otherwise, the other difference is the points earning, but I'm not sure if that alone would be enough to offer a challenge.

I assume you wouldn't get the suite upgrade nights since you have to hit the nights for choice benefit.

I do recall a few positive experiences, no I don't have the links to them. Keep in mind FTers are more likely to post complaints rather than compliments so the numbers will be slanted to the negatives. The only alternative to not reporting the issue to MPG is to sit and rant about how bad everything is. Yes, there are uninformed CSRs (in all industries), but life is grand when you find one of the few that will actually take up your cause. I have been fortunate to have connected with a few. That's why we have YMMV and HUCA.

I've been following this all closely and have not seen one report of status being "fixed" by a CSR. What I've seen is lots of reports that CS will do nothing. See this thread on Marriott Insiders, for example.

I don't agree with that. There are plenty of positive reports on this forum of, for example, status properly updating.

Overall, you consistently give Marriott credit where it's not due, and demean FT'ers for legitimate complaints. Seems to me that's totally backwards but hey, whatever it's an open forum.

Yes I've tried "reporting the issue" through support on Marriott Insiders. Crickets.
Happy and getagb like this.

Do SPG properties count now? Anyone able to start a challenge recently (post-merger)?

It might be a good idea to let them sort out the merger before even thinking about trying for a new challenge. They can't get status right for the ones that have already been completed.

Good point, I'll probably just let the dust settle and watch what others/Marriott does...

My Plat counter shows 2 years right now. Gold and Plat is at 3 years.

I did a challenge in 2016 to gold and finished with 49 nights (first year of any status with Marriott.) Then I did a plat challenge in 2017, finishing with 68 nights or something like that. I have 71 nights in 2018 so far, with 11 stays with SPG prior to merging my accounts, so I have Gold there.

I think the answer to your question lies in if they counted my 71 nights this year towards the lifetime counter, or not.

I completed the Taste of Gold in Nov 2017 which shall give me to Feb 2019 and shall be Platinum in new program
But how stupid I was that I linked the programs before and when I talked to agent and they all just said I got my gold in Marriott through status match with SPG, therefore I shall be gold in new program. No one has even tried to correct anything and it seems they are not aware they have sent me this promotion. And now I resent them what they have sent me about this promotion with my stay record. And lets see what they reply. fingercross

So my status shall be Platinum now?

Sounds like you got one of the many CSRs that look for excuses instead of solutions (way too frequent). You might try calling again and not mention anything about doing the challenge and just that your were MR Gold and should be MPG Platinum now. Do you have any communications from MR showing the Gold status prior to linking your SPG account?

The phone agents can't do anything for you (except provide bad information), so that's a complete waste of time (yours and theirs).

I reached out to various other Marriott/SPG resources concerning their failure to update my status, and couldn't even get a response (some great cs ).

Reportedly, Marriott has a special team working on updating status. I was skeptical, but they finally fixed mine late last night. I suspect yours will get fixed on its own, but I appreciate your frustration in the meantime.

ETA: And now my status has switched back down to Platinum. Unbelievable.

I received this email just now. I also received a phone call back this morning from another email I sent about this problem. He said they were currently working to fix all status issues with emphasis on the lifetime status issues first.

Good Day Mr. ....,

We sincerely appreciate you reaching out regarding the New Status Levels.

At this time, we are upgrading any Platinum Elite Members who were in the Platinum Challenge into The Platinum Premier Status.

All members will have to meet the criteria in place for Platinum Premier moving forward.

We truly thank you for your feedback and appreciate your Loyalty.
