Late check out
Marriott's website says Silver gets priority late check-out. That is a little vague, what does it mean exactly?
As a Starwood Plat, I get 4 PM guaranteed, not vague at all. Any experience with LAX airport area Marriotts and late check-out? |
Probably varies depending on property. It's rare for me to ask for late check-out, but as Marriott Platinum I usually get it. No idea what Silver gets.
If I'm at a LAX property it's usually due to being on the oh-dawn-hundred flight, so can't answer the late check-out specific to those properties. Just curious - what's the guaranteed late check-out time for Starwood Silver, or whatever they call their basic tier? Is it also 4pm? Cheers. |
Gold is the other elite level with SPG. There is only a 4 pm guaranteed late checkout for platinum members at SPG.
As a silver member with Marriott, you are behind all the gold, platinum and platinum premier members on the status totem pole. Usually, you should be able to get 1-2 extra hours at FS properties as a silver member, although they might not be as generous if they are busy. A late checkout is usually harder at limited service properties since they have less housekeeping. At Marriott properties, I have little trouble getting two extra hours past the regular checkout time. I have occasionally asked for 2.5 hours extra, but it is pretty hard to get more than 2 hours unless you are a regular at a hotel, their occupancy is really low, or you have some extenuating circumstance. You should have better odds getting a late checkout at one of the airport hotels since there are more guests who leave early to catch early flights. The Renaissance LAX has a 1 pm normal checkout vs noon for the Marriott LAX. |

I was wrong regarding gold members and late checkouts.
You're not fully correct about the guarantee since it is due to availability at resort and conference center hotels. This restriction applies to all guests at all elite levels. Corporate preferred and preferred plus are sort of like gold light status where the holders of the status do not get the extra 50 % in points that gold members have, although they receive all of the other benefits of gold members. You can get preferred plus by being a AAA member. |
As Plat, I was granted 4pm check out at MR-LAX and Ren-LAX every time I needed it. Don't know about CY & SHS.
At the Aloft Brooklyn earlier this week, I was given 4 pm check-out at the time I was checking in, without asking. Turned out I didn't need it. |

Re: Silver, as VA1379 mentions, the OP would be behind the other elites, etc. My guess is he'd get an extra hour but that would be it. Cheers. |
As a Silver, I got an additional hour for check out (1 pm vs. noon) at the Fairfield Inn in Winston-Salem on 8/18. Clerk said policy did not allow late check out beyond 1 pm.

Or I stick with my 4 PM gauranteed at the Sheraton and forfeit my free Marriott night......decisions. |
Like a number of MR benefits, the late checkout is left intentionally vague, and is up to the property. Just like with the upgrade benefit, a property can largely do what it likes. In either case, you (a plat, gold, or silver) can be told "Sorry we don't have a (late checkout) (upgrade) etc. available." Not much you can do about it. Both benefits are upon availability. The property determines when they have availability.

I was at JW SF Union Square this weekend and requested a late checkout for my 1night stay and they said that "for my elite level (gold), they give 2 hours" (i.e., until 2pm). Seemed pretty normal and seemed like they had a specific "allowable schedule" depending on your elite level.

As a Plat I was told to go scratch by the Ren Pere Marquette in NOLA.
They were busy, admittedly, but wouldn't give me anything. |
