quick status/reservation question

My parents are thinking about going to Maui for 4 nights next week (my mom works for airline) and I was going to set them up at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa ($199/night right now).

My father-in-law is Marriott Platinum. Can I book the room under his name/MR # and then add my dad's name on the reservation in order to try and get them the Platinum benefits (I know no breakfast due to resort, but room upgrade and free internet is better then nothing, right) ?

Or will they give them a hard time and want to see the Platinum member checking in?

Thanks much.

I tried searching around but didn't find anything. Hard to figure out which search terms to use.

Nobody knows?

The rules are the Platinum member must be a guest at the property, so going by the T&Cs, no, they should not get the Platinum benefits. Now, in reality, it might happen. All depends upon who's working the front desk and the level of training they have had regarding checking ID of guests. Some FDCs have been reported asking the Platinum guest to present themselves to get benefits and failure to do so results in charges.

Have you checked IATA rates that should be available for your Mom? The difference may make the benefits a non-issue.

You may want to make the reservation under your dad's credit card. I've booked a room under a corporate rate using my credit card, then added my uncle as a guest. I was told that my uncle could not pay the bill with his credit card. Not sure if it was the corporate rate or the credit card mis-match that was causing problems. This only happened to me once, but it may be worth looking into.

he has to be a guest. And I do know for a fact that they are ID checkers at that property.
