Marriott Website

I did a search but couldnt come up with a Marriott Website specific thread. Marriott's is plain awful...the nice part is that the actual front end of the site looks very nice however the backend is a complete mess.

How many days does it take to have a stay update? It's up to a week at times which is pretty ridiculous nowadays with everything being electronic and payments getting cleared pretty much immediately.

Also, the inability (at least from what I found) to get my electronic copy of my receipt is acceptable in 1998 but is not acceptable in 2011. Heck, if you want to save some money add a preference box to my profile "Only have receipts on checkout through email" and instead of having to slide it under my door the night before checkout I know it'll be emailed to me. There has been multiple times in my short Marriott membership that I've needed to look up a stay a couple of months ago for the receipt and I was out of luck. I'm trying to think back but I believe in order to receive it I could have called CSR or print off a form and FAX it to Marriott.....FAX! lol

Anyways, I dont mean to rant but have really thought about it a lot and how it's about the only thing that could make my experience with Marriott perfect

Nothing to do with the website. It depends on when the hotel credits you. In my experience, most places credit w/in 48 hours. It can, however, take weeks when my stay was part of a large room block/event because nothing is posted until the group has finalized everything.

Also not correct. I nearly always receive an email copy of my folio (in addition to the hard copy under the door). Go to your account profile on the website. Under Email Notifications select eFolio and that should take care of it.

While the home page is pretty, I don't find it very useful. The ugly old website beneath it is, however, surprisingly functional.

It depends where one stays. My guess is lexdevil stays predominantly at North America hotels.

E-folios are pretty reliable for North America, but come up lacking everywhere else.

In the past 16 months I did not receive e-folios for stays at the following properties:
Sydney Marriott (3 stays)
HKG Sky City Marriott
Hong Kong JW
Hong Kong Ren
Bangkok Marriott R&S
Seoul JW
London RCC
Dubai JW
Singapore Marriott
JW Ihilani
Waikiki Marriott
I did receive e-folios for all my stays at properties in:
US lower 48
Alaska
Vancouver Marriott
Waikiki Courtyard (this is the only property outside North America for which I have received an e-folio)
Also most of the delays in posting that I encounter are from overseas properties, and even that has gotten better in recent years. But as lexdevil says, it is based on when the hotel submits the info to Marriott Rewards for points credit.

VickiSoCal Jul 26, 2011 6:59 am

Agreed, my top two complaints- no post stay access to folios and inconsistent updating of points aren't really website issues, just general Marriott system/IT issues.

precchia Jul 26, 2011 9:49 pm

First of all, their behind the scenes system is very reliable, which to me is most important.

That said, it is obnoxious that when I drop my car off at National, my receipt is available on the website by the time I walk in to the airport, yet Marriott properties take 2-3 days to e-mail me my folio, if they ever do at all.

This is the major gap that I wish Marriott would fix with their systems.

Exactly. Avis has my receipt emailed to me in 30 minutes after I drop off. Marriott? It's been as long as 7 days at the same hotel I've stayed at every week for 6 months.

Marriott: Y U no get me receipt faster?

nevansm Jul 27, 2011 7:18 am

I've found that if I check out the morning of my departure the stay usually posts within a day or two. I usually always have at least one incidental, I think it's been discussed that having something besides a room charge helps.

from the email prefs on m.com

eFolio
Have an electronic version of your hotel bill emailed to your email address within 72 hours of check-out after every stay. (Not available in all countries.)

From a confirmation for a reservation I just booked

Sign up for eFolio to receive your hotel bill by email after each stay in the USA and Canada.

I have this set in my preferences, and it worked well about the first 3 stays after having that be my default.

Since then, I have to send an email request for it. I wait the full 72 hours, send the email, and usually get it within an hour of the reply to the email.

It definitely would be nice if you could view past folios on the website, as all of my expense reports are done electronically.

VickiSoCal Jul 27, 2011 10:03 am

Who do you email for it? Husband checked out of Washington DC Ren 6 days ago, nothing, not efolio, no points, no stay credit. It was a conference rate via passkey, which is nearly 100% jacked up in our experience even though you enter your MR number when making the reservation and he always confirms it on checkin and checkout.

since it was a conference I'm certain the issue is the group hasn't been "checked out" yet - once that happens the folios will be emailed

VickiSoCal Jul 27, 2011 11:15 am

And what is the average time for that? I've never had it happen without calling and have waited up to three weeks, which is ridiculous when his stay was paid for with his AmEx.

PS- as the other poster mentioned, this is a real pain when submitting electronic expense reports, much easier to attach an emailed efolio than to scan the paper one, and with conference rates bopoked thru Passkey I have never received an efolio.

I agree it's not the most ideal situation (Personally as mentioned before - I love hilton where you can log in and pull up historical folios going back years)......but with groups it really depends but wont happen until the group master folio is finalized, sometimes groups require approval before the final bill is sent which would further delay - to create a system like hilton's MI would need to invest in a great deal of new code (not saying it isn't worth doing - just saying there isn't a quick solution)........Marriott's new CIO is a great guy, very smart and customer forward thinking - I'm certain this is on his target list

I've always used the Contact Us link from the MR website.

https://www.marriott.com/suggest/sug...=rewards#email

In the first drop down box for topic, you can select Folio/Bill request as an option. As long as you are logged in to your account when you visit that link, your MR #, name, address, etc are auto-filled. Takes a few hours to get a response to the email sometimes, but I have been told that their system does an email sweep every 30 mins for outgoing, so once they have processed it you receive it quickly.

BigDog Jul 27, 2011 6:28 pm

Marriott states that the e-folio mailing is not available for stays in all countries. I have never received one after a stay in Mexico. Anybody else experience the same? It might be nice to know if a stay in a certain country will generate the email.

Read up thread and it says US and Canada only.

I just don't get why you can't access your folio on the Marriott website at all, let alone as soon as you check out. When you check out on your hotel room TV, the information is obviously stored on some centralized system. They are able to print the receipt and slip it under your door the night before you check out. They are able to email you a folio eventually. So why can't I log onto the Marriott website and view my folio as soon as I check out? I see no technical reason for this limitation. If it's a process issue (i.e., the hotel needing to finalize/approve the folio before it is released), then so be it; mark the online folio as "finalized" or "not yet final".

As soon as I get my folio, I slip it into an expense envelope and mail it to my employer for reimbursement. However, the charge does not appear on my AmEx until a couple days later, at which time I need to import it into my employer's expense system and itemize the charges. Sadly at that point I no longer have the physical copy of the folio, and the e-folio is never emailed to me in time. So this means that before I mail out the folio, I need to write down what all the charges are so I don't forget them. It's a bit of a pain.

This is obviously not the end of the world, but it is an inconvenience, and one that I would not expect to have in this day and age.

Other than that, the website is quite functional, and makes it easy to locate information.

Of course there are a few quirks (for example, to see the "Restaurants and Lounges" information of any hotel, why do I have to click "explore our hotel" and then click the "Restaurants and Lounges" link within the "Services and Amenities" tab? Just make "Restaurants and Lounges" its own tab, or embed the information within the "Services and Amenities" tab).

But again, the website is quite functional. It's natural to point out the defects, but everything I haven't mentioned works great.

Tyzing Jul 28, 2011 3:58 pm

Guys, if having the Folio emailed to you is good enough then I really dont know what to say...perhaps you have not experienced how today's modern technology can simplify your life.

I'm simply asking for more options...all in one location and on the website that I made the purchase with. It's not to much to ask...99.9% of the B&M and E-commerce out there (ebay, Amazon, iTunes, etc etc etc) will allow you to log on to your account and see every transaction and every detail about that transaction. There is a lot to be learned from Hiltons website...good and bad. Marriott having the map showing the locations is almost a no brainer however I still dont think Hilton got the memo (at least with the last trip I booked with them a few months ago). However, their customer stay history is excellent providing PDF's of every stay and points earned for each stay on the Folio.

There's really no excuse for a 3rd party like TripIT to have more logged details about my trips and stays than the company that the transaction actually took place with.

*Again, let's not think I'm bashing Marriott because they are hands down the best chain I've done business with. Their site is beautiful and the UI is really really good....I have the feeling it's the bugs under the rocks that are the reason we havent seen changes to the backend though. Prob would take a complete overhaul which is not a easy/cheap task.
