I would buy a lot of points at that ratio so my vote is yes

I would do it because I know I would get a lot more value out of those points than what it would cost you to get them.

I just realized that the stay I'm going to do this weekend ($88a.i.) will allow me to qualify for 25K points, so it's a yes for me. Going to see if I can find a LNF for tomorrow. If I can I'll switch from today to then. If not, then I'll stick w/ today. The FI is about 5 miles from my house; haven't decided if I'll actually stay or just check in & head back home.

Cheers.

Plat amenity, indoor pool, even managed to get a full breakfast included rate... Eliminated the feeling that I was *only* buying the points. :)

I second this idea. I have never done a pure Mattress Run but I have taken some special trips and/or booked a slightly more expensive hotel than I would have chosen otherwise to cinch a bonus. The problem with a pure MR is that it takes time. Even when the points at worth the room cost, as I agree they are in the OP's case, adding the cost of time (and gas) often makes it unworthwhile. But if I can create an enjoyable reason for the trip it becomes worthwhile again.

For example, taking a weekend trip to wine country and nabbing the final two nights I need for a promo is a lot more enjoyable than checking in to a slightly cheaper hotel near home I won't actually use. It also sells better with my wife. ;)

Well depending on where someone lives, checking into a local hotel w/ a pool/jacuzzi spa, free brekkie, might be worth it if they have kids. Heck, you wouldn't even need to stay overnight. Check in, let the kids play in the pool, & head back home when they're done. Gives them a treat, you get the points - and if you're a good hubby, the wife is off getting a facial or having a glass of wine w/ her gal pals for a couple of hours. Win-win. ;) :D

Cheers.
