New Autograph Hotels in Spain
Starting in May, the first four Autograph Collection hotels in Europe are:
•AC Santo Mauro, Madrid, Spain •AC Palacio del Retiro, Madrid, Spain •AC Palacio de Santa Paula, Granada, Spain •AC Baqueira Hotel & Spa, Baqueira, Spain http://news.marriott.com/2011/03/mar...to-europe.html |
I'm going to try and book two days in the AC Santo Mauro, Madrid, Spain but the question I have is if I do it now will they recognize my plat status when I get there? I haven't talked to a Marriott rep about it yet as I don't think they will know much about it until; it shows up on the Marriott site. Any advice?

Earlier press release seemed to indicate that the remaining AC hotels would launch and be bookable on Marriott.com as AC hotels by Marriott, by early May.
Anyone have any insight into this, Insider? Am going to Spain in late May and would like to widen my options if at all possible. Thanks, NJ |
I'll be going to Spain/Portugal for the month of April and will be staying at several AC hotels, in lieu of the Melia brand I previously used, and will be posting my impressions of each afterwards. Won't get any platinum benefits but will advise if the hotel is "really" a 3 or 4-star property.

I've made reservations for a 3 night stay in September. I didn't want to wait until May as the dates I wanted might be sold out. We'll see what happens in May. I'm wondering if I don't change anything when they come up on the reservation system if I'll get plat treatment when I arrive.

I think they will be good as I really dig the ultra modern design of the hotels and TripAdvisor gives most if not all of them high marks. Please identify which you will have stayed at. |
I'll be staying at AC's in Cordoba, Granada, Seville (covering Andalucia) & Zaragoza as I reserve Madrid for the Westin due to its location and in Salamanca - my favorite Spanish city - have always stayed at the Melia "boutique"

I contacted an individual at Marriott concerning the upcoming inclusion of the AC hotels and the new Autograph properties into Marriott vis a vis my upcoming trip to Spain.
The following may be relevant to other's needs: The AC Hotels by Marriott and 4 Autograph properties will be active on Marriott.com by the end of May, however will not be part of Marriott Rewards until closer to the end of the year. Anyone know differently? NJ |

•AC Santo Mauro, Madrid, Spain - category 7 •AC Palacio del Retiro, Madrid, Spain - category 7 •AC Palacio de Santa Paula, Granada, Spain - category 6 •AC Baqueira Hotel & Spa, Baqueira, Spain - category 7 |
I was looking at the Granada location for a rewards redemtion, but no thanks. 30,000 points per night for a room with a max occupancy of 2, and no real idea yet of what the Plat benefits will be.

I guess these are the 4 "Selection" high end options in the AC chain that Marriott has a joint venture with.
http://en.ac-hotels.com Hopefully there will soon be more and lower tier options available for redemption and booking as they seem to targeting the younger traveler. http://www.marriott.com/marriott/ac-hotels.mi |
I don't know-they don't look that nice- and I'm not sure the demand will be there to justify those categories. London and Paris can command Cat 7 or 8, but going outside of the capital into second tier cities you are usually looking at Cat 5 or max cat 6, with rooms (with the exception of Paris) that sleep 3 or 4.

One might not wish to spend 7 days in Madrid under the old awards program, but under the buy 4 get 1 free, I can easily see spending 5 nights there -- which I am doing, just at the Westin, though. |

The following may be relevant to other's needs: I don't know if the above concerning Marriott Rewards is accurate for although SPG has some hotels on their website that don't participate in SPG Guest Rewards, to my best recollection, anything that has ever appeared on Marriott.com has either earned MR points or has been available to book with rewards points. Anyone know differently? NJ Maybe Marriott Concierge can enlighten why this is the case. Cheers! |
