Please post cat 4 to 5 changes...these are important!
|
I am going to go ahead and call it, and I'm not happy about it... Austin Courtyard/Residence Inn Downtown... Category 4 --> Category 5.
|
This is why it makes no sense to "hoard" points...in any program. Use 'em or lose 'em....
And although it is easy to be critical, let's remember some of the things Marriott added...the new brands, rollover nights, etc. |
WOW three category 8 in Aruba....
Influenced by the upcoming Ritz? The properties are nice, but they are SO crowded. At the Renaissance Aruba is going BACK to a 6? It was only lowered to a 5 1-2 years ago. And it has not been updated! It WAS a great place to use the Visa cat 1-5 cert. Not happy with these developments :td: |

.. Marriott’s Villas at Doral .. Marriott Grande Vista is a Cat6 (30k points/night) for a studio that is typically between $100 - 165/night |

If I recall correctly, here's the Renaissance Aruba's categories the past four years: 2011 => Category 6 2010 => Category 5 2009 => Category 6 2008 => Category 5

All in all, not too bad.
Marriott is 7:2 increase to decrease while SPG is less than 1:1. Unfortunately, this continues a trend I've seen over the recent few years. Just as I'm nearing lifetime PLT, I'm less and less pleased with the program. |
Lifetime plat is the perfect time to switch brands if you're not pleased with MR.

Good Morning, FlyerTalk community.
I just wanted to share with all of you an announcement we had recently leaked on Marriott Rewards Insiders regarding Hotel Category Changes for 2011. Please see below: [I] ...we wanted to provide you with advance notice on hotel category changes effective for all reservations made after March 8, 2011. Approximately 100 hotels will decrease by one category and approximately 350 hotels will increase by one category. Less than 10% of the changes have been made to the Category 5-8 hotels. BTW, In the future I'd like to see a better balance between the # of properties decreasing in Category level and those increasing. We're still smarting from the addition of a Category 8 level. |
Marriott reported group rates rising in high single digits in past few months and CEO Arne Sorenson declared in late 2010 that Marriott would raise rates aggessively.
I guess that includes reward night rates too. |
Why won't you show us the list of hotels going from Cat 4 to Cat 5? This has a large implication for redemption of Marriott rewards certificates. It just seems disappointing and perplexing from a customer satisfaction standpoint to not release the entire list like Starwood does
|
It is hard to believe that the Renaissance Vinoy will now be cat 5, while Residence Inn Treasure Island is cat 6 (even though the rewards points only get you a 'studio' sleeping 2). I would definitely stay at the Vinoy.
|
Interesting comparison: Most of *wood props that are going up are in Asia and Europe, while most of US props either stayed the same or went down in category.
Yet, Marriott props are predominately in the US, yet there are 3.5x more that are moving up 1 cat, compared to those moving down 1 cat. Can't know for certain since the list has not been publicized. :td: |
