And most people don't pack their pornograph in their computer bags any more. I guess that will have to change.

First it was Apple that blocked 'adult' apps from their stores and now Marriot.

Why does it matter to them what people do in their own time with their own money? In this instance, it's possible that company might be losing out on a 'free' revenue for them.

5-10% of hotels NET profit is from porn. If I recall that stastic correctly or it may have been from pay per view TV but I am 99% sure it was from porn.

Out of principal I will boycott Marriott, until they offer the cheapest price then my boycott is out the window.

Will this step ventually lead to Marriott pulling out porn from all current hotels?

Gotta say it was titillating when I was 20 but far less so now I'm approaching middle age.

You bet! This is one reason I'm glad to have an EvDO card grandfathered onto an unlimited plan. 3-4x as fast as some of the properties I've stayed in lately.

Yes, according to the Washington Post

Marriott said the company will not renew existing contracts with suppliers of in-room adult videos as the contracts expire and will not allow its new hotels to offer adult videos.

"The Marriott family is known as being very conservative, partly from their Mormon background," said C. Patrick Scholes, a senior gaming and hotel analyst with FBR Capital Markets. The moves comes two weeks after likely GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's resignation from Marriott's board. During the 2008 presidential campaigns, Romney was criticized by family-oriented interest groups for not pressing Marriott to drop the adult movies offered in its rooms. A coalition of Christian organizations that includes Focus on the Family met with Marriott International officials in Washington in 2008 to press the hotel chain to stop offering pay-per-view adult movies.

Actually in my case I am just having fun with my title and could care less.
In all the years at a Marriott or most any hotel I would rarely ever view them simply because the pricing is stupidity. Its like that 20 dollar Diet Coke in Paris from the mini bar.I would have to be mighty desperate.

I rarely ever stay in a Marriott or an Omni. However off topic it has nothing to do with porn.It has everything to do with the Marriott Rewards program and its 75 night requirement and promotions that limit redemption to cat 4 properties just for starters.Added to that recognition for elites.Yes there are positive elements too................its a very popular program none the less..........

I just find their business behavior facinating and a double standard.
On other levels I admire the company and many folks that work for it in and out of the hotels.Just glad that both Marriott and Omni have decided to decide for others what materials are correct for their customers to view.Whats next?In the future when the tv show "The Doctors" says how bad something is for your health I can see Marriott deciding what restrictions will be in place
When ordering your meal on property.Sorry french frys, beer and pizza have been banned/removed as they are considered unsafe and immoral

I believe you're confused about why MI made the change....Omni is a private company and per their majority shareholder's wishes decided to remove the movies for moral reasons (they have since found this allowed them access to new markets)......MI made the change because the entertainment systems have gone from a profit center to a cost center due to a shift in guests entertainment choices/abilities.....Bill's personal beliefs do not enterfere with his fiduciary duties to the company

Appreciate the post.Off topic while I have the chance to say
I admire you as one of Flyertalks brightest and informed posters as well as always saying things in a kind way. For those reasons thank you for being an active engaged poster on Flyertalk ^
Enjoy reading your posts

You make a great point .Let’s for the moment take it off the moral platform for the moment and back to the revenue side of the equation/discussion. Marriott you claim says it’s based on a financial decision.Mini bars are considered non profitable frequently however there is guest demand.
Many hotel restaurants are also considered not profitable. They are provided for guest convenience and satisfaction though......
Do they remove and or close down those facilities and the shut down consumer choice and convenience?

Years ago I was in the video/audio visual business. We sold and rented everything from Disney to Adult videos
Adult films cost far less to purchase and were considerably more profitable to rent with a far greater return on investment. When Marriott takes out all in room movies out I may be buying into their spin.
When Richard Branson Starwood,IHG,Hilton all banish Adult films I may start to think there is a real business reality or another pay for service that replaces movies on demand.

For today I am sticking with my story/ thoughts but try to keep an open mind to the changing business climate driven by consumer demand or the lack of it and the financial decisions driving that change.........
Cheers

Cheers
Thanks for the kind words

Anytime a change is made to the product offerings a very detailed analysis is done (Marriott performs detailed analysis on just about everything it seems)

With the usage of the in-room entertainment peaking at levels years ago which were always quite low when compared with other services provided by hotels there isn't a big difference to to the guest experience by removing these offerings......while almost all on-site restaurants are profit centers you are correct some areas are breakeven/low ROI (or cost of capital) for some hotels such as in-room dining and mini-bar however if these items were removed the guest experience would be greatly reduced doing damage to the brands that require them
