Do I Have Reason to Complain?

I'm Marriott Platinum and attended an event at a nearby Renaissance over the weekend, so my husband and I decided to book a room. When we checked in, we were given our floor (14) and not provided breakfast vouchers. I asked about it and was told that they did not offer that, although the receptionist apologized. When we got to the elevator, I was again surprised to note that we had no been placed on the concierge level (floors 16 and 17). We did have turn down service, but, otherwise, were not made to feel like valued Marriott members.

In the grand scheme of things, and to answer your question, I would not.

You mentioned there was an "event." It's quite possible that the CL floors were sold out. Upgrades there are on a space-available basis.

I am not sure if we are guaranteed concierge floor, just concierege lounge access. Of course, no food is guaranteed on the weekends. I dont think you have anything to complain about. (based on published benefits. I think they should provide weekend breakfast.)

Did you get your platinum arrival gift?

Yes, my question was really geared towards the breakfast....didn't make sense to me. And yes, I took points as my gift.

Concierge lounge access is guaranteed, but not a room on that level. Believe me at many business hotels they have far more platinums than CL rooms. Also as already mentioned the meal benefits are only guaranteed during the week and not weekend.

Sounds like they did recognize you with a gift. Since the lounge was closed and apparently there were no upgrades available you got exactly what is described in the benefits guide. Sorry if you were expecting more, but that is pretty standard across the industry.

Personally, I have seen more and more Rens and FS offering bfast on the weekends. Looks like thats being done at the local level to compete with other chains. Also seeing more lounges open on weekends. Again, though, not guaranteed.

Thanks all for the insight. Just wanted to make sure I was getting the benefits of my status.

I don't see this as any kind of industry standard through my own eyes
Hilton and Hyatt provides elite qualifying members breakfast 7 days a week in or out of their lounges open or closed
In the case of Hyatt for top tier members bonus points and full breakfast are guaranteed for every registered guest in your room
In the case of Priority Club and SPG though there is no promised breakfast benefit of any kind a number of the hotels offer lounge access or
complimentary breakfast sometimes just by simply asking or the hotel exceeding expectations
Although Marriott and their hotels may have the right to refuse top tier
Platinum members the courtesy of a free breakfast I personally don't see it
anyones best interest the hotel or the top tier member who can switch to a
competing brand of other program in the morning.

Having said that if one is sold on Marriott as there only brand or program of
preference then their is no need to look outside the Marriott Rewards program.
When lounges may be full I see this as a huge oversight and not fair to their
exceptional customers who are required to perform a minimum of 75 nights each year.I would say that makes it the most expensive program in which to earn elite status in with questionable recognition
My feet personally would be moving rapidly toward some other program in a hurry
