Elite Night Timing Issues
I've got a stay at the BA Marriott Plaza over New Year's (12/30-1/2). The bill will obviously close in 2011 but 2 of my elite nights will be in 2010. Will these count towards my 2010 elite status?
My Marriott Premier card anniversary is at the end of November. Last year when I signed up, the 15 elite nights dropped into my account in December and they counted for my 2009 elite status. Any reason to believe that it will happen differently this year? The reason I ask is that I've got 67 elite nights currently with another 4-5 nights coming in from Marriott CC spending plus MAYBE 2 or 3 more with Xmas spending and travel. Thanks for your help. - ejh25 |
No one has any thoughts here?

You will get your elite nights from your CC at least once per year. So if you received them in November of last year, you should receive them in November this year.
My understanding of nights credited per year will be that you should receive 2 nights credited for 2010 and the rest for 2011. Two points that may or may not be of interest to you: 1. Right now Marriott is rolling over any "extra" nights you stay beyond renewing your current elite level. Therefore, since you are currently Gold and you get 67 nights credited this calendar year, you should receive 17 rollover nights toward elite status for next year. (Note Marriott's continuing to offer Rollover nights is decided on a year by year basis. So they may not continue to offer Rollover nights after this year.) 2. Marriott uses a 12 month rolling calendar for achieving a higher elite status. Therefore, for you to achieve Plat status, you don't have to necessarily get 75 nights in a calendar year. You only need to get 75 nights within a 12 month window. I'm not sure how or whether Marriott counts those rollover nights toward your 12 month window. Someone else may be more up on that part and can chime in. I would guess they count based on when they are posted to your account, but that is just a guess. |

Unfortunately Marriott did away with the rolling calendar qualification when they announced the elite night rollover benefit.
