Here's another data point for the Royal from Feb 13. Gold status recognized on check in. They gave me a little welcome pack with a letter from the manager, two vouchers for a free drink at the bar and upgraded me to a suite. I was on a AAA rate so the Gold free internet was appreciated too. Sometimes it all just works out!

We had a recent stay there and were very happy. My wife doesn't stay at Marriott's much but has gold through her UAL status and we also received a suite upgrade with the welcome pack on a AAA rate. Not bad for only her third Marriott stay this year and having status through UAL

Keep in my the Gold status Marriott gave u through United isn't permanent. It was only temporary ending in mid-2014... Unless u travel a lot and manage to secure enough nights.

My wife has heard rumors that the partnership may be extended which we are hoping is true.

If not, she is considering getting the Ritz Carlton credit card to keep her status. It has a high annual fee of $395 year but would allow her to keep her gold status and it gives a $100 food/spa credit on every RC stay of two or more nights at RC's and she can arrange a few RC stays as part of business travel and the $100 credit would pay for the annual fee.

Even though she doesn't stay at Marriott's much the gold status helps out so we have status at all chains. I have Diamond status at Hilton, Hyatt and RC status with IHG and she is gold with Marriott and with the SPG/Delta crossover program we have been getting some awesome upgrades so we are covered with all the major chains.

Executive lounge recently received an update of flooring and tables and chairs. Not hugely different but the bigger tables have increased capacity a bit.

2 out of 3 lifts have been out of action for 2 months and might be so for a few more months as they might need replacing. They recently opened the service lift to customers to ease the congestion.

It it might be worth updating the Name of the hotel to include “Centre”.
