Ten (10) Elite Nights are given for each meeting held in a participating hotel under the "Rewarding Events" program. See below for non-participating brands. Information about the Rewarding Events program may be found at https://www.marriott.com/meeting-eve...els/rewards.mi

The 10 elite nights per meeting are independent of any hotel rooms booked in conjunction with the meeting. In fact, no hotel rooms have to be booked as part of the meeting in order to receive credit for 10 elite nights.

Although the Rewarding Events webpage refers to room nights for meeting participants, the most important section is the one that states 10 Elite Nights, regardless if you or your guest is paying for it

In general, a written contract is required (or should be obtained). In many cases, the meeting is booked through a central Marriott group sales office instead of directly with a hotel. If booked through a central Marriott group sales office, there is a three-page contract that makes reference to the Rewarding Events program on page 2 of the agreement. A MR member number should be included in this area of the contract by the group sales office.

FAQs:

Q: What brands participate in the Rewarding Events program?
A: AC Hotels by Marriott, Aloft, Autograph Collection, Courtyard by Marriott, Delta Hotels by Marriott, EDITION, Element, Fairfield by Marriott, Four Points by Marriott, Gaylord Hotels, JW Marriott, LeMéridien, The Luxury Collection, Marriott Hotels, Marriott Vacation Club, Moxy Hotels, Protea Hotels by Marriott, Renaissance Hotels, The Ritz-Carlton, Sheraton, St. Regis, Tribute Portfolio, W Hotels, & Westin.
Residence Inn by Marriott, TownePlace Suites, & Marriott Executive Apartments do not participate in the program.

Q: How do I find a hotel that participates?
A: Click on the link to the Rewarding Events page and then in the "Plan" section of the page click on the "Find a Hotel" box. Enter the city you'd like to have your meeting in, purpose of event (Business) and then check the "I need meeting/event space" box. Enter the size of your meeting (2 attendees should work) and then click the "Find" box. Leave the start date and end date blank. A list of potential hotels will be shown. The smallest meeting room is not usually shown online --- you may need to call each hotel to find out which one has a boardroom or other small meeting room. Once you've found a small meeting room, then request a quote online.

Q: How quickly will Marriott respond with a quote?
A: Usually within a day or two --- and usually via email. The email should contain a telephone number of the group sales contact. Give them a call and tell them you'd like to follow up on the quote and you're interested in booking the smallest room available for a 2 person meeting for an hour. If they quote a price that's higher than you want to pay, ask them if they can get approval for a lower priced meeting (e.g., a recent quote was for $75 for an 8 hour use of a CY boardroom). They accepted a counter of $50 for a one-hour meeting in the room (plus service charge plus local sales tax). Urban hotels may charge significantly higher rates for meeting space than a smaller, less congested city.

Q: Is a contract required?
A: The terms of the program suggest "yes" --- although there are reports that 10 elite nights have been granted without contracts. A best practice would be to obtain a contract.

Q: How long do points and EQNs take to post after the event is over?
A: Generally, this takes 3+ business days. According to Marriott, it can take 15 business days. If you do not see anything post after 15 business days, contact the hotel before contacting Marriott customer support. The hotel has to be the one to post it.

You will get an e-mail with a subject line Your Rewarding Events Award has Posted: EVENT NAME

Q: Will the hotel know what I am talking about when I say points and elite night credits?
A: Probably not. They may know about the rewarding events points being 3x per dollar spent, but not always. Usually they know of only the Marriott system (Group Posting Tool) where they input how much you spent and when. This is done after the event and is usually authorized by the sales or general manager.

Q: The contract doesn't say anything about points, will I still earn them?
A: YMMV but so far all the electronic contracts from the website state it, but some fail to read it. The paper contracts usually talk about points, but some reports that they don't, but still post. Remember this is a Marriott Rewards benefit that the hotels don't seem to be footing the bill for.

So far there is only an internet rumor indicating it is changing, which it might, but there is no official word .
I think it’s pretty clear, actually, that Marriott is ending the 10 elite night meeting bonus after the first meeting. You get credit for one meeting in the new program and that’s that. A very fair and appropriate solution IMO.

Clear from what? They have not made an announcement and they are using the same marketing language they presently use for rules that give ten nights credit for every meeting? So where is it clear that they are changing things? I understand some people want them to change and someone has said an internet blogger nobody can now name was told this by some unidentified person at Marriott, but looking at the facts it is not clear that Marriott is going to do this. I don't care if they do, and as a best practice people should err on the side of caution and have meeting completed by Aug 1 if they want the credit, but there is nothing beyond rumor on this. It has taken on a life of its own despite nobody being able to show anything other than an interpretation of marketing language similar to what has been used for at least eight years but with the word "only" added to the interpretation as proof that there is change coming.

It’s clear to me from the new Marriott loyalty program website page that was referenced earlier:

https://members.marriott.com/rewarding-events/

That language is different from the current language Marriott uses with rewarding events. This new languages talks about earning 10 elite nights from your first meeting; the old language doesn’t mention anything about first meeting. Here is the old website language:

https://www.marriott.com/meeting-eve...els/rewards.mi

Again, everyone sees what they want to see...except in this case I’d actually benefit more from the old language and not this new language. Regardless that the old language benefits me more, I think it’s pretty clear that Marriott plans to limit the 10 elite night credit to the first meeting/event only.

Crap, really? I just booked a bunch of meetings (on different days)) under one contract. Damn. Wonder if it's too late?

Is it for sure they will all be credited as one event?

Not clear which benefits me more. In a post rollover nights world I would still easily pass 100 nights per year with the old language/interpretation. If the new program really is 10 nights for your first event and 1 night for 20 room nights after that, it will be a closer call, but I should still make it if the old Marriott Chase card continues to credit 1 elite night for every $3K in spend.

Of course depending on how they calculate spend, it may make no difference whether I can reach 100 nights (and I'll easily reach 75 regardless). 100 nights without $20K credited spend is no better than 75 nights.

In a world where Marriott ignores a lot of my spend, I may be better off with Marriott only giving 10 nights for the first event booked. This would at lease cull the herd of Platinum Premier 75s who achieved that status with nothing more than 8 $50-100 meeting rooms, possibly making it a tiny bit easier for the rest of us to catch an upgrade.

Hmm, the sales manager told me they don't enter a contract number. She assured me I would get credit for individual meetings and she would be entering them every day... We'll see I guess.

Is the "group posting tool" software the same across hotels? Or is it more like a general term... Because they clearly enter those events somewhere and Marriott Rewards gets notified, I'm just a bit concerned she said they don't enter contract number / time?

For what it's worth, I booked meetings days apart at the same property about two years ago, requesting separate contracts to ensure they get posted separately. The rep still did not think much of it and posted them together as it equled the same number of points. Was a bit of a nightmare to fix afterwards.

Sorry, but that's not clear. As stated, all we have at this time is rumor and internet interpretation. MPG (also a SWAG) has not released anything to support or deny, so all we can do is hurry up and wait. As I have been preaching, READ all the released information and make your decisions based upon facts. Everyone has their own agenda/needs and there is no one answer for all.

Be cautious. There are two different processes in play here. One is the basic process that is used to post room stays and does not trigger the RE nights and there is the Group Posting Tool used to post meetings and block room contracts. There is no contract for the first whereas there "should be" (some report not having) one for their meetings. Many property staff are not aware of the different programs, I believe because the front desk is not the normal contact point when dealing with meetings. If the property meeting staff is clueless, ask them to contact their MR support team or reach out yourself to MR asking them for help.

Having gone through this with supposedly separate meetings and spending a lot of time and some extra money getting credit, if I ever tried this again, I would put some time between meetings.
Why not just book meetings at different hotels? Or have I missed some data points where people missed out from overlapping meetings, as they would with overlapping nights...

Having different meetings in different locations at the same time is not an issue. The member does not have to be at the meeting per the rules, only be the one arranging the meeting. Our departmental assistant would set up meeting for five different people in our department. There were days where there would be five different meetings in five different cities but she would get credit for each without issue. It became "a thing" as we worked towards her having enough points to get a Travel Package which she and her husband used to go to England, where they used to live.

Simple, rates. Not all properties offer the same rates. And yes, there have been people reporting not getting the successive postings when the property used the same contract number to post multiple events. There should be no issue if there are overlapping meetings, again under different contracts.

Now that's a great idea! Don't hear of many actions taken to benefit someone else. Very good.

That would work. As long as the contracts have different numbers, having multiple meetings at the same hotel shouldn't be a problem.

I was actually using the meeting rooms during a foreign trip and there was only one Marriott hotel in the area, so your suggestion wasn't an option.

as RogerD408 said above, cost.

i continue to deal with the property i am (despite the points not having posted yet) because i'm getting a great rate on my half hour meetings...if i wanted to spend $100 a pop i could easily go elsewhere. it's a risk, and surely a hassle, but one i'm willing to take at the price.

not sure how it'd work with overlapping meetings, but i'm hoping to add some more daily meetings through july, if anything from the first set actually posts to my account.
