Ten (10) Elite Nights are given for each meeting held in a participating hotel under the "Rewarding Events" program. See below for non-participating brands. Information about the Rewarding Events program may be found at https://www.marriott.com/meeting-eve...els/rewards.mi
The 10 elite nights per meeting are independent of any hotel rooms booked in conjunction with the meeting. In fact, no hotel rooms have to be booked as part of the meeting in order to receive credit for 10 elite nights.
Although the Rewarding Events webpage refers to room nights for meeting participants, the most important section is the one that states 10 Elite Nights, regardless if you or your guest is paying for it
In general, a written contract is required (or should be obtained). In many cases, the meeting is booked through a central Marriott group sales office instead of directly with a hotel. If booked through a central Marriott group sales office, there is a three-page contract that makes reference to the Rewarding Events program on page 2 of the agreement. A MR member number should be included in this area of the contract by the group sales office.

Enter the city you'd like to have your meeting in, purpose of event (Business) and then check the "I need meeting/event space" box. Enter the size of your meeting (2 attendees should work) and then click the "Find" box. Leave the start date and end date blank. A list of potential hotels will be shown. The smallest meeting room is not usually shown online --- you may need to call each hotel to find out which one has a boardroom or other small meeting room. Once you've found a small meeting room, then request a quote online.
Q: How quickly will Marriott respond with a quote?
A: Usually within a day or two --- and usually via email. The email should contain a telephone number of the group sales contact. Give them a call and tell them you'd like to follow up on the quote and you're interested in booking the smallest room available for a 2 person meeting for an hour. If they quote a price that's higher than you want to pay, ask them if they can get approval for a lower priced meeting (e.g., a recent quote was for $75 for an 8 hour use of a CY boardroom). They accepted a counter of $50 for a one-hour meeting in the room (plus service charge plus local sales tax). Urban hotels may charge significantly higher rates for meeting space than a smaller, less congested city.

Q: Will the hotel know what I am talking about when I say points and elite night credits?
A: Probably not. They may know about the rewarding events points being 3x per dollar spent, but not always. Usually they know of only the Marriott system (Group Posting Tool) where they input how much you spent and when. This is done after the event and is usually authorized by the sales or general manager.
Q: The contract doesn't say anything about points, will I still earn them?
A: YMMV but so far all the electronic contracts from the website state it, but some fail to read it. The paper contracts usually talk about points, but some reports that they don't, but still post. Remember this is a Marriott Rewards benefit that the hotels don't seem to be footing the bill for.

My contract says it is a catering contract even though it states I am conducting an interview. Does a catering contract qualify for the 10 night’s or do I request a change?

Sorry if I missed this, but is there any easier way to look up the pricing aside the website?
Looks like just about every property has a 'request quote' button, and the ones they don't are ~400+
If anyone has a lead a property in the greater Los Angeles area that would be ~$100ish please pm me. Thanks.

It doesn't matter where the property is. You do not have to show up. If you insist on showing up go through the quote process, for the ones that show $400, and then change the meeting to 1 hour. It will reduce the cost to $200 most likely. That is, it defaults to day long meetings. In my experience, using the automatic system, is about half the stated price when you change the length of the meeting. To get cheaper you have to call and negotiate. Again though many of us have had meetings throughout the country that we no showed for. It really isn't hard.

Hey all, I really wish I found this thread earlier. I have a couple big trips next year including my honeymoon in January. I mainly stay at SPG resorts and I'm 7 stays away from Platinum. I did some research for some cheap nights at SPG hotels in my local area and I think it would be cheaper for me to become platinum at mariott at this point using this method.
I tried reading through this thread but it is very long! My question is, once I become platinum using this method I can transfer my status to SPG correct? I know normally you can, but I wanted to ensure doing it this way would also apply.
Second, will I have enough time to use this method and have platinum status apply by January 4th? I currently only have 3 nights at a mariott property as I generally use SPG! Please let me know - it would be really nice to have platinum status for my honeymoon and hope there is suite availability.

Yes, getting Platinum at Marriott this way gets you Platinum at Starwood as well.
You can get Platinum this year and have it by Jan 4, BUT: If you get it in January, it's good for two years (earned in 2018 gets it for the rest of 2018 and all of 2019). You should let the place you're honeymooning at know it's your honeymoon.

Thanks! Do you think I have enough time? Can I do multiple a day? I leave Jan 4! Maybe I can do 7 of them in December and wait for the 8th til Jan 2. Will that still count for 2 years of platinum ? I just hope it posts in time to earn me platinum!

There's no requirement for the meeting organizer to be present so it's possible to do multiple meetings per day. If you're doing it at a single property, work with the sales rep to make sure they're created as multiple seperate events rather than bulking together as one for convenience. Or book through different properties.
Events fall under the normal qualification/requalification cycle, unless you have rolloever nights, it resets at the end of Dec 31. Also keep in mind properties may be slow to post events, particularly during the holidays when people are gone on vacation or otherwise slow down.

Just wanted to come back in here and say that I found a place to do it for $40 (canadian dollars) per meeting! Will be doing two 1 hour meetings per day for 4 days and separate events for each. I was upfront with the representative as to my intentions and they were very accomodating.

I have the platinum promo going right now need 15 more nights. So, if anyone has any places they have found < $100, shoot me a pm please. I have a few requests out to certain hotels and waiting to hear back.
