Success!

Our records indicate you are enrolled in the 2010 Spring MegaBonus Promotion that began February 1, 2010 and ends April 30, 2010. You will receive 35,000 Marriott Rewards MegaBonus points when you stay 20 paid nights, and an additional 15,000 points if you stay a total of 25 paid nights during the promotion. You can receive up to a total of 50,000 points when you have 25 paid nights. You may track your progress through our website at MarriottRewards.com.

I have noted on your account that you would like the different offer where you can earn 35,000 bonus points when you stay a total of 20 paid nights - plus an additional 25,000 points when you stay a total of 30 paid nights . At the end of the promotion we will add the appropriate points to your account.

Success!

Emailed MR yesterday and got the following response:

Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards regarding the 2010 Spring MegaBonus promotion.

Our records show that your account is enrolled in the 2010 Spring MegaBonus promotion that began February 1, 2010 and ends April 30, 2010. You are scheduled to receive Offer #3: Earn 25,000 bonus points when you stay a total of 15 paid nights, plus an additional 15,000 bonus points when you stay a total of 20 paid nights (Max points 40,000).

However, as you are a valued Platinum Elite member, I would be happy to change this offer to earn 5,000 bonus points with every other paid stay, starting with second stay (Max points 25,000).

I have documented your account with this alternate offer; however, you will not be able to track your progress online as it will continue to show the original offer. At the end of the promotion, sometime during the first week of May 2010, I will manually adjust your account to include the difference between these two offers.
Should get me around 10,000 points...better than none

I have been Marriott PLT for quite a few years. These Marriott promos are extremely lame compared to competition.

25 stays at Hyatt gives me 12 free nights at any Hyatt branded property + the usual points. I average 3K Hyatt per stay so 25 stays is around 75K Hyatt points which in turn is another 4 free nights at the highest Hyatt category. It is very easy for me to structure stay = one night so this might not work for everyone.

50K Marriott points gets you two free nights at 30 year old Marriott property that probably should have been demolished years ago unless they have blocked the redemptions for those dates.....

That is all great, but there are only about 340 full service Hyatt Hotels worldwide, and less than 150 limited or select service hotels of Hyatt's other brands (approximately 100 Hyatt Place [formerly Amerisuites], approximately 28 Hyatt Summerfield Suites, and just 5 Andaz), while Marriott has about 3,100 hotels of all Marriott brands worldwide. So what good is all that you are talking about for Hyatt when you can't go to the places you want or need to go?

Thanks! Worked Great. Told me to ccheck my account May 10th to see points.

My point is that it makes no sense to be blindly "loyal" to any of these programs. I spent 300+ nights per year at hotels and have easy time to qualify to top tier in as many programs as I wish.

Due to very generous promos from Hyatt/SPG/IHG and this year from Hilton as well it is very difficult to give any of my business to Marriott.

One could easily reach IC RA/SPG PLT/Hyatt DIA for the same number of nights as Marriott PLT.

For those of us who are not able to have enough nights to be top tier in more than one program, it makes no sense to point shop like you do. I stay 75-95 nights per year, and that is enough for me. When of the four professional conferences I attend every year, three out of four and sometimes all four are held at Marriotts, staying someplace else would be foolish, and when there are no full service locations for other chains where many people have to go (not just major cities), Hyatt and Hilton do no good. For example, I have significant business interests in Montgomery, Alabama, where the only full service hotel downtown is a Renaissance, and there is no other full service hotel anywhere closeby anyway. I have traveled to MGM twice in the last three weeks, and am headed back there this coming Saturday through Wednesday.

Also, it does not matter how many points are accrued with Hyatt or Hilton or Starwood, if there is no where I want to go on leisure time to use the points, there is no point in collecting them in the first place. For example, in Thailand, Marriott has 19 locations across all brands, while Hyatt has only 3. In Costa Rica, Marriott has 5 locations, Hyatt has NONE. In Aruba, Marriott has 4 locations, Hyatt has 1. In the Virgin Islands, Marriott has 2 locations, and Hyatt has NONE. In Puerto Rico, Marriott has 5 locations, and Hyatt has 1. In the UK, Marriott has 57 locations, spread out all over England, Wales, and Scotland, and Hyatt has 3 (2 in London, 1 in Birmingham, plus laughably, if you do a search for WALES, Hyatt's one hotel in Sydney, New South Wales comes up). Finally, in Canada, Marriott has 61 locations, and Hyatt just 5, all in large cities, no resorts, and not even one in Ottawa, the capital city! Granted, Hilton does not have much of a problem in this area, but Starwood certainly does, though to a lesser degree than Hyatt.

I asked to be switched (via email) and was given my choice of several offers...I selected the one that would make the most sense for me...so I will get about 5-10K extra points which is better than nothing..

Response received moving me to 60,000 offer within 24hrs, thanking me for my years of patronage, etc. Same terms of reference as stated above, my account will only reflect the 50,000 offer, manual adjustment to be done in the first week or two of May-10. ^

Hit my 25 night mark last week. Points posted over the weekend. Call this morning and was easily changed to the 30 nights for 60K promo. It was almost too easy.

USirritated Apr 26, 2010 8:46 am

I wish I was going to make 30 nights for the higher point bonus, but alas I will be stuck at just 26 nights. Woe is me, I will have to put up with a bonus of only 50,000 points! ;)

hungarianhc Apr 26, 2010 11:41 pm

I have the offer for 35,000 pts at 20 nights and 15,000 more at 25. Friday night (april 30) is going to be my 25th night... I'll be okay right?

You will be peachy, as long as your room nights get properly credited. Just watch your account for that and all should be well, even if the room nights are credited late, but reflecting the correct stay dates. It is the dates you stay, not the date the stay is credited, which matters.

Thank you to all the Platinum Elites for starting and responding in this thread. I am only a Gold but using the strategy netted me 15k points where I would have had none. The guest services rep was happy to change my promotion from 15 nts for 25k points to 5k for every other stay. Thank you again.
