UPromise & Marriott

So as many of you may know you can get 2% back on money spent at Marriott if you book your stay thru your UPromise account. Or so says UPromise.

I book at least 1 stay per week thru my account and was not getting any money back. Finally I called them and they told me "I must be doing something wrong as Marriott says they will not honor the UPromise agreement with me".

Anyone else have this problem? I mean, its not rocket science and Im not sure whats wrong. But we are talking a lot of money here. Maybe Marriott just doesn't want to pay out?

I was not aware of this but logged in to my Upromise account and it does seem to be true. Link takes you right to the Marriott website and you can enter corporate codes into the search box.

However if it is not working for you what is the point?

Let us know if you work it out. I may just try a booking for the fun of it, nothing to lose I guess as long as I still get stay credit and Marriott points.

I know from an English website (quidco) which sounds similar: Marriott doesn't offer any cashback on corporate rates. On other rate codes it may a gamble.

I've been getting the 2% back on every Marriott reservation I've made since they started being a Upromise partner. It's automatic, and I've never had a problem.

What kind of rates do you book? Leisure?

Ive tried leisure, corporate, AAA, etc and there seems to be NO rhyme or reason as to which ones post (about 6 months later) and which ones they deny.

Do you need to go through the UPromise site to make the reservation?

Upromise & Marriott

I manage the Marriott relationship for Upromise, and spoke to the Marriot to receive clarification on why some of you have not been receiving Upromise commission from booking your Marriott stays through Upromise. The bottom line is that corporate rates or stays booked by redeeming MR Points aren’t eligible. If neither of these apply to you, and you believe you still should have earned Upromise rewards, please fill out an order inquiry form through Upromise, and we’ll research your order directly with Marriott: https://lty.s.upromise.com/displayServlet?su=8123.

Here’s Marriott’s official policy:
Why didn’t I get Cash-Back?
Generally there are three reasons why you may not receive a cash-back:
1. A reservation has not yet resulted in a stay
2. Your booked a non-commissionable rate
3. You redeemed MR Points during that stay

What is Commissionable?/ When can I earn Cash-Back?

Online Reservations – Non-commissionable = No Cash-back
You don’t receive Cash-Back on a Marriott reservations; only on the completed hotel stay.

Completed Stay – Commissionable Rates = Cash-back
You earn Cash-Back for each qualified stay at Marriott hotels worldwide(if you go through Upromise). Commissionable Rooms are rooms made available for sale to the general public by Marriott. Typically commissionable rates include Regular, Corporate, Weekend, Package and Advance Purchase Rates.

Completed Stay – Non-commissionable Rates = No Cash-back
Rooms offered at specially negotiated rates, where the customer is required to be affiliated with or employed by a particular company or organization to receive the special rate (e.g., government rate, corporate rate, Marriott employee rate; redeemed Marriott Rewards points).

Marriott Rewards Points and Commissions/ Cash-Back
1. If a Marriott Rewards (MR) member makes a reservation (whether logged in to the MR account or not) and of course stays, then the member earns MR points and Cash-Back through Upromise.
2. If a Marriott Rewards (MR) member redeems previously earned MR points by using a MR rate code, then the member keeps accumulating MR points, but will not receive Cash-Back.

Good to know the rules!

I book maybe 50% on corporate rates but even the "regular" rates get denied by UPromise. Every one.

PM sent.

That definitely shouldn't be happening. Please send your non-corporate orders to be researched at: https://lty.s.upromise.com/displayServlet?su=8123 It's really helpful for us to know if members aren't receiving their owed rewards.

Yup. Been there, done that. I send in about 10 at a time after 6 months has passed since I stayed. They research them and then come back in about 2 months and say they are ineligible. I guess I was hoping you could help escalate as I believe its a technical problem.
