i'm booked in for a night this saturday (for valentines) - the hotel have contacted me to confirm time for meal.... would it be too cheeky to reply and request comp upgrade... i'm only silver elite at present

Depends, is it a FS property and is it a popular spot for V-day? If so I think your chances are slim regardless but if it's just a local hotel and not a "V-day hot spot" then I think it might be worth asking at least. What's the worse they can say?

It's never cheeky to politely request an upgrade. The worst they can say is no, and then you're no worse off anyway.

but i was offered a butler drawn bath and half bottle of moet champagne for £30?

For the UK this is a standard service and the price sounds normal for the Marriotts in the North?

Try and reply back and offer £40 for a full bottle and an upgrade if you want to be cheeky ;)
