As for other sights, Peyton Manning and our governor, Jon Corzine both live in the converted Art Deco'ish (Lipton) Tea Building at 14th Street end of town.

as with most W's if you talk to the right person you can get a deal on them.
re residences, many times they have restrictions like min leases. (owners cannot lease to someone else for less than 12 months, etc.) was just wondering if anyone happened to know. |

"wow" :D
nice ^ |
Spending $1500 a night is not "wow" at all. ;)

BW I don't know about that-not all of us have the great luck you have in the upgrades we get.
I,and other here, often tell folks that"if you want a guarenteed upgrade pay for the room you want"and that is what the folks here are looking to do. If I wanted to have a fantastic location for a meeting/party/special stay I think $1,500 is a very "wow" price ;) especiallyconsidering what the same type of suite would cost accross the river. I look forward to checking this place out in October. |
Well, I've done some research and it seems rather painless to get to Hoboken from Manhattan. I'll be staying at the W on Lexington Ave for the first time this July (pity Downtown isn't opening in time :(), but I'll also be heading down to have a drink or 6 at this new W. This way I get to tick 2 new Ws off my list (well, sorta) as well as experience "the other side of the river" for the first time - 3 birds, 1 stone. :D I'll be sure to come back with some pics. :)

my stay last week 01/5
Stayed there last week for a week. I also believe it is a great place, right on the water front walkway and close to restaurants on Washington Street. Also great for taking the PATH to up and down town Manhattan ( 4 mins walk). There are still some minor construction/repairs on the higher floors and around.
Check-in was good and courteous. Specialty drinks (pomegranate mojito) and light snacks (lemon square) available next to the check in counter. Was upgraded to a room with balcony(..10) as per the above pictures. B&O sound system but NO Ipod docking station (seems to be throughout the hotel, even though it's mentioned on your reservation and on the amenity book!!! :-( Great views of NY city from the bedroom & living window as per above pictures! Bar are great and lively but not cheap!! Service: Calls to Whatever/Whenever were answered immediately and issues addressed with follow up phone calls. Also calls to the desk took longer as often goes on answer machine. Quite a few teasing problems overall. Be very careful if you stay over the week ends as many young/university people seem to stay there or even locals ( yes, strange!) and have huge parties in rooms when the bar closes. I had 2 reservations due to one being on awards and the other booked on the site and they had problems combining them together. Quality checks on rooms have not been fully investigated upon completion of the hotel: many corners still showing blue plastics on the new apparatus and new carperts on the hedges. On the inside door, there were 3 prices above my room, so I checked and on the 17th floor you have only one room instead of 08/10). Bizarrely, there is a 50" tv screen in front of the wall on that floor, seem a waste of money!!!! Overall you clearly pay for the view, and if you like Hoboken/connection to PATH ( even to EWR), you will certainly enjoy it, but the W promise was a bit of a let down in camparison to other Ws. |
Finally got around to uploading my pictures from my stay in the E-Wow, and I have to say being the first people to stay in it was pretty cool. At check-in the woman was excited to let me know that we were their first E-Wow guest and that the previous night there had been a photo shoot with America's Next Top Model (which apparently resulted in a lot of stuff missing from the munchie box that we didn't take, but they got that all settled).
I've stayed in a few E-Wows at other W's and I'd have to say this room is probably the coolest one I've seen. It's very curvy and there are mirrors all over the place that make it seem very big, although it is a bit disorienting when you first enter. (Sorry for the crappy pictures!) The Entrance http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3604/...568102.jpg?v=0 Living Room http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3614/...f52740.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3408/...2733a8.jpg?v=0 Dining Area (the table was awesome!) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3646/...5a5e46.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3302/...ab473b.jpg?v=0 There were two bedrooms, nothing really amazing about them, but the bathroom in the master bedroom was pretty cool http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3315/...b7827e.jpg?v=0 And there were two balconies which had beautiful views of NYC http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2423/...a4aa7c.jpg?v=0 We had a fantastic stay, the staff was very friendly and helpful. There was also a really neat wet bar that had an art fixture above it with color changing lights, but the picture came out quite terribly so it's not on here. But overall, the suite was pretty impressive and even had a surround sound system that hooked up to an iPod and had separate controls in every room (even the bathrooms). Will not hesitate to stay here again! |

Word on the street in Hoboken (I used to live there and still hang out there very often) is that this hotel isn't doing very well. I'm sure the sagging economy and financial sector has something to do with it ... but to be honest I've never understood this hotel's appeal.
Hoboken is a white and yuppy haven, but barely a destination to anyone outside of New Jersey. Who comes to the NYC area specifically to visit Hoboken? For people who come to visit NYC, what's the appeal of staying in Hoboken when there are 4 W's and other fancy hotels in Manhattan itself? Yes, this W is particularly convenient via PATH/ferry to downtown - but they're building a new W downtown now, so there goes that idea. Additionally, Hoboken has very very few office and commercial buildings, especially compared to Newport/Jersey City which has massive office buildings - but also plenty of much more convenient hotels (including a brand new Westin). I'm sure the bar/restaurant may do well (Hoboken has a TON of people who fit the W brand's target audience) ... but even to that point there is no shortage of uber-trendy bars and restaurants in Hoboken to compete with the W. Anyway, apparently it's not doing well - however that is just an unsubstantiated rumor going around town. |
